Old British Opinion Polls

A game where you have to play to win a US style presidential election, if you win you become the president and if ypu lose you lose, great fun.

Some Old British Opinion Poll statements I have read on,
In Political Opinion Polls by F Teer and J D Spence This is all accurate I have checked

Polls on 1950s-60s election run up discussions. And conference facts, Also polling on the PM and Opposition leader in the 50s-60s annually, of who was more respected. A 1965 poll on the Labour and Tory Party leaders of are they respected in way of certain character traits i.e are they tough or sincere. And some more polls below, seeinglu.

It said of 1960s elections polls after Tory Conferences generally saw blips in their support. As too for Labour, and for the Liberals it said any election success would often see a blip in their support.

It was very perplexed about the miss polling of the 1970 election predicting a Labour win and seeing a Tory one, but then again it shows it just needed refining, as they were so used to being right.

They said normally parties gain support in election campaigns,
But said in 1959 the Tory lead narrowed from 6.% Gallup and 8% NOP to 2% Gallup and 4% NOP when the election neared finishing.
They said 1964 the Parties leads stayed level
In 1966 Labour's lead fell at the end of the campaign sharply after staying a steady lead.
In 1970 it increased at the start then fell at the end

It stated between 1938 to 1970 most by election polls predicted the right outcome, like the surprise Orpington Liberal win, and said that just some were wrong., I always in my area see by election polls, of pre general election polls, and they are very often way out. For constituencies,
Just before 1963 More British people wanted Butler to PM than wanted Home to be,
But Home rose to 57% satisfaction a great honeymoon, period, despite the fact most British people thought the Tories would lose votes with a change of leader. Home's popular honeymoon fell after 9 months,
Eden's honeymoon lasted 6 months,
Heath was always from 1967-1970 less popular than Wilson

Here are polling figures

Barbara Castle once had a brief period of popularity too.

The racist Enoch Powell was more popular a choice for Tory leader than Heath among Tories in 1969 after his immigration speech
In the 1970 election and for 5 years after he was down to as popular as Heath, but less popular than Wilson as a candidate for PM,
