Argument for the 3rd and 4th place play off in the World Cup

I think the 3rd and 4th place play off is good. Some people say that in the world cup it is bad , But I think it is a great idea. Look at this for example, reaching the Semi Final is a incredible achievement in the world Cup. It is such a achievement Argentina have not reached one since Italia 90, and even Brazil did not reach that or the last one. Meanwhile the Quarter Final can be reached just by a easier than normal draw in the group stages then a game against another easier team in the 2nd round, and winning on penalties. To do this again against what will almost certainly at last be a good team in the Quarter Final is rare. I think there is a big difference between the fact you have to be fairly good to be in the Quarter Final, but only ok to reach the Second Round. And to beat any team in the Quarter Final even on penalties after a draw takes something.. So to reach the World Cup Semis is a great achievement. But if your achievement is to reach the World Cup Semi Final you can not really list that as a honour, But if you win 3rd or 4th place you can claim it as an honour. This makes the World Cup more prestigious, and gets more honours and more satisfaction. It also makes football more interesting as it means beating Portugal cheers up any team, Purely as Portugal have the equivalent of a medal being fourth in the World Cup 2006, And it is on Portugal's honours list, And in reality getting that far in the World Cup should be listed as an honour. Even the worst ever teams to reach the World Cup Final, can be rated as good. Or have some good reason for getting far.. I suppose you may say the teams of the least prestige to have won the European Championship were Denmark, and Greece, But for the World Cup no team who won the World Cup has been of low prestige. Added to this for Greece I suppose it was the fact they were holding the Olympics, and had a Top Class Manager that gave them the boost. While for the Danes it was the fact of having the Laudrop's 2 very top class players, and Smeichal a top class goalkeeper. Plus a loud of other top [players, ewho made a vgery gopod team, probabaly the best Scandinavian team everm, very top class.
But to get to the World Cup Final it takes far more., not that Denmark, could not have done that, or even Greece with even better players,
You have to get past harder group stages than the European Championships, as of a couple of South American teams, that are in the top 4 of football, ever, 1-2 top class South American team, who is better than a few European Championship teams. Plus 2 North American teams, of good quality, plus always 4 African teams that are better than the worst Europeasn Championships teams, and 1-3 good Autralian or Asian teams, And sometimes Africa and Asia-Australia have very good teams, like Nigeria, or a host like South Korea., So to get to the World Cup Semis is about as difficult and as a achievement as winning the European Championship.
Added to this last major reason for a 3rd and 4th place play off, is this, what about how in the World Cup there is a long almost week wait to the World Cup Final. After a feast of football, of a game every day, of the best teams in the world, some in their first competition, exiting penalty shoot outs, and such, then the week long wait is surely a anti climax. And there is less of a story, as most of the time, it wont be your own country reaching the final. So the 3rd and 4th place play off lets the stuff about the final take a rest. From what will not be that much a to talk about Final, As lets face it we will be used to the story the media has for the build up of being for foreign lands of 1 day build ups, a 1 week build up just loses momentum. So we need something in between, Added to this it is a honour for the teams who get 4th or 3rd. I believe reaching the semi final of the competition is to similar a honour to being in the semi final, or 1st round, to be rearded as an honour. But to get Runner Up is an honour And to get 3rd or 4th is concrete it is something. I think it is the same for almost all competitions, Of course though it would be mad to have a 3rd and 4th pLace for some comptetions as they are not about that sort iof thing they are just cups to win, Not the pan global universe masters of the universe nature of the World Cup. While the FA Cup is just a annual cup , on knock out ways,. And for some comptetitions like the bowls world title it is not so prestigous as of their nature. And for some 3rd and 4th plac e like for those hockey competitions is not so good as they have 7th and 8th place 12th and 13th nlad all that . So what there needs to be is a great reward for getting so far, and only for the top 4, Just like the Olympics, where it is Gold Silver and Bronze, and almost a medal.
So that is that, there may even be a case for the European Cahmpionships. Having one, bujt that is all, no other competition.
So that ios that the play off stops more of the anti climax feeling, and stops all the momentum being lost for the World Cup,. It is a great thing.
The FA CUP AND Scottish Cup semi finals are honopurs in a way i.e if Chesterfield or Forfar can talk about it it can be stated as a great honourm, but the award of 3rd and 4th I feel is just more tangible
