CAP The good side of CAP.

The Common Agricultural Policy receives alot of criticism, and the free market idea is continually put forward on the TV and press. Yet let us just remember what happened the last time we had a free market in the British empire. Millions starved to death in India, as the government sold food abroad while people in India starved. The main priority of global farming should be stopping famine not just making money.

In the free market the highest bidder get's the food, while the poor starve. That is even more likely in todays economy.

Why does the CAP get insulted as protectionist. The free market under the British empire killed millions more. Everyone knows if Europe cut food production, Africa would find it even more difficult to buy food on the market. Food would become less cheap, and less good value. Why can't we just redistribute 10% of the CAP to Africa.

What would stop Africa from just producing food for the west, and none for the poor of it's own nation as happened in India. It is said the easy option is to get rid of farm subsidies, well so what, ease is not an excuse to starve the poor. That easy option was tried in the British empire, and thorough the 19th and 20th century and communism was an extreme over reaction to the extremes of free market ideology ruining the British empire.

We need a balance, of free market and socialism. We need subsidies for food production in Africa, not just leave it to the random fate of the free market. That would be a tougher option but it would be the best option. That way we could guarantee food security in Europe, and Africa, while helping to stop farmer poverty in Africa. We cannot ship food from Africa as African's starve a,d yet we cannot leave let the present system continue. Imagine if we become dependent on a foreign power for our food, in the same way the Ukraine was on gas. It is better every nation has a free market food system but with subsidy to help increase food production. The free market is not magic, it does not offer free loans, or second motgages for nothing. The Irish potato famine was also helped by the free market. As the British had enough food but the Irish could not afford the food.

The free market will just mean more food being bought by the west from the poorer nations. So the west will be dependent on other nations for food, and the poorer nations that cannot produce food will not be able to pay the prices, so increasing starvation.

My policy is

1) Alllow every nation to increase food subsidies

2) Stop subsidy for tobacco.

3) Redistribute food production subsidy from the west to to the poorer nations.

4) Attempt to ensure that no region is dependent on other regions for food.

5) Ensure their is food production surplus to provide food aid. FARMING FOOD

http://www.globalizationinstitute.org/blog/cat_agriculture.php A globalization blog, that seems to be against CAP.

Don't fall for the right wing idea that subsiding an industry destroys it. They are looking for a moral justification to be nationalist and against the EU. Farming is helped by subsidy

The right wing want to claim CAP harms farming, harms the poor, harms the farming communities, starves millions and causes poverty. Rubbish the extreme free market would do that far more. Some who are against the CAP have the same contradictory manipulative type arguing tricks that anti EU types have. They have decided to claim the CAP is wrong because the EU does it, so every argument is used against it no matter how contradictory or wrong. They ignore the free market in China in the last century and the free market in the British empire. Recently the government of Niger forced French food aid to be sold to protect the free market, yet amazingly the EU was blamed for this. One for giving food aid to Africa, on the ground this would stifle African farming (in the middle of a famine) and contradictorily on the ground that they should not be selling food aid. Well it was the Niger farming community who asked for the food to be sold and not give n away to protect their price. The CAP is treated wrongly as the bogey man. One program on the BBC compared it to slavery. Well how does providing food aid to the nations that cannot provide food and guranteeing food security in Europe compare to slavery. We need to boost other trade issues in Africa. not just food. How does selling all of the food in Africa to Europe help the poorest in Africa. But the right wing concentrate on agriculture because the EU does it. How is it anti poverty campaign types are listening to extreme right wing types who don't even care about the poor in this nation. Thye just want rid of the CAP to lower taxes. There are some critics of the CAP who are so manipulated by the right wing press that they criticize the CAP as capitalist in one breath, and in the next breath they put forward the extreme free market agriculture system, that we should fear. But they have been so conned by the incessant right wing propaganda that they actually fall for this moronic logic. They also blame every problem in agriculture on the CAP. They blame industrilisation, high finance, chemcal issues, the domination by agro business, big corporations, individual cases of farmers having to have big loans to survive, or having to remortgage, or have a second mortgage, or big debts, or selling their homes, the fact that farming is tied into the modern capitalist system, all on the CAP. And that somehow by getting rid of the CAP, that all farmers will become organic, agro business will stop, communities will all turn into an episode of Postman Pat, and capitalism will collapse. Well drivel. If we got rid of the food subsidy we would have no control of the agro business, the business would be even more uncontrolled, and even more desperate on profit, we would just have more cruel free market system. We need to reform the CAP, it is insurance, and a credit too the state, we do not need it's destruction.
