Since 1979, the Greenwich Polo Club
at Conyers Farm in Greenwich, Connecticut has awarded the C.V. Whitney Cup to
the winner of an annual polo tournament. The trophy was named after Cornelius
Vanderbilt Whitney (February 20, 1899 - December 13, 1992) an American businessman,
film producer, writer, and government official, as well as the owner of a leading
stable of thoroughbred racehorses.
