Fantasy Leadership Election,

I have chosen this election, as British elections, are too complex for a game like http://www.lonympics.co.uk/fantsayelection.htm my US presidential election way, as they are based in 100s of units, instead of 50, and on a few parties, and so many splits, and a longer period, of election, and are usually open and shut cases a few months before hand. for my work.

And Labour's elections, are more democratic, so fluid, or are too easy victories for a lead candidate. Although I like to think of myself as left wing, this election was the most exiting election during my political awareness, 1989-2006 (This was written in mid 2006), in Britain. The 1990 Tory leadership election .

I have changed the name of the characters, and country just so that I can have artistic license, and change some events, but it is very similar.

You are the candidate for the Tory party in the United Republic of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for the 89 election.( Britain in this history was made a republic in 1941, after King Edward 8th was convicted of high treason, this means I can change the characters allot)In this election Prime Minister Margaret Fatcher has led Britain since 1979, but recently her poll tax has provoked riots and her Tory party has fallen from 42-32 election wins over Labour, and majorities of 100, to against Labour Leader, from the Welsh Republic, Nial Kinnock, to losing in the polls, with Labour on 46%, Fatcher on 33%, and Lib Dems, on 17%, with Greens, on 1%, and others including the Scottish Nationalists, Ulster, and Plaid Cymru, parties on the rest of the vote.

The Tory party lost the European Election to Labour, the first Tory lose in an election, since the early 1980s, in 1988.

The next General Election is coming up, and last year a almost unknown stalking horse candidate MP stood, and took 50 votes. out of 370 Tory MPS,

This time, Steven Hoseltine has said he is going to stand against Fatcher for the election in November,

All Tory mps, say this election up coming for October, is the last date that there can be an election, as otherwise, Party rules are changing in mid 1990, as a new constitution of the party said in 1988, and so this is the last chance you have of replacing Fatcher as PM, before a election, as challenges for the leadership can only happen in the second half of this year, before changes make a new challenge impossible.

Hoseltine, the former Minister for Trade and industry, is challenging and aiming to have an election for October.

The next election has to be by mid 1992, and polls say as Fatcher is refusing to give up her poll tax, and opposistion to European unity. The minsiters will carry on trying to oust her till the end of this year, then many shall resign, and make the party lose so many votes, that many say Labour will easilly win the election, according to many predictions.

The polls say, that ditching the poll tax, and getting a new leader would make the Tory party competitve with Labour, losing the most unpopular PM, since polling began, (in the 1930s) and gaining a new leader, possibly more popular.

If the charismatic Hosoltine tookover, and if he gave up the poll tax, the party would rise up to 38-41 behind, and not giving that tax up, would just make it 33-44

Hosoltine, has put his name forward for the election. as a left of the party candidate,

It is felt in the papers, that he has the backing of at least 70 MPS, and probabaly 90, He says he has guaranteed 110 supporters.

The main challengers other than him are of course

Yourself (Home Secretary) Young rising star regarded as ambitious, and talented, and not yet defined as left or right or centre

Robbie Hurd (Foreign Minister) Eton educated, balding, intelectual centrist

Lady Marshenham, (Cabinet affairs), the only woman to have risen up the party in the time of Fathcher, other than Odwina Cooro, this aging posh lady, has some support as a centrist

Frank Folder, (Chancellor), The new chancellor, the right wing, minister who stamped down on unions, unpopular, seen as a replacement by Fatcher, to be loyal.

Sir Humphrey Latongone, the aristocrat, former deputy PM, of the early part of the decade, is seen as a possible candidate by some, now Minister for Education.

John Mojor, recently resigned as chancellor, for a unknown reason, once a possible challenger, he has said he is resigning form parliament, he was replaced by the unpopular Frank Folder,

Do you decide now to stand yourself,

Or say you have full support for your party leader, while hoping the PM, will lose, and open up a chance for you to lead,

Or say you do, while expressly planning for being the new party leader, starting a secret campaign with close pals, and some of their pals, .

Or decide to not stand and express such support for Fatcher she survives and stays on to be leader in 1992's election.

If you lose, why not play again.

The more close you are to win, the more complex the game gets

You are at most only a dozen or so moves from winning
