Holidays in Corsica are often an idea many people have. Some may want to go to the island to see the cities, the culture, the entertainment, sports, or venues in the island. Some may want a cheap or luxury vacations in the island. Some may want to see the scenery, the cities, the beaches, the coastal views.
Corsica is the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (after Sicily, Sardinia, and Cyprus). It is located west of Italy, southeast of France, and north of the island of Sardinia.
Corsica is 183 kilometres long at longest, 83 kilometres wide at widest, has 1,000 kilometres of coastline, more than 200 beaches, and is very mountainous, with Monte Cinto as the highest peak at 2,706 metres and 20 other summits of more than 2,000 metres. Mountains comprise 23 of the island, forming a single chain. Forest comprises 15. Approximately 3,500 km2 of the total surface area of 8,682 km2 are dedicated to nature reserves (Parc Naturel Régional de Corse), mainly in the interior.
The island is 90 kilometres from Tuscany in Italy and 170 kilometres from the Côte d'Azur in France. It is separated from Sardinia to the south by the Strait of Bonifacio, a minimum of 11 kilometres wide.
Major rivers
Corsica has several rivers, some with tributaries. They originate in inland lakes or mountain passes, flow through gorges featuring rapids and waterfalls, then meander through coastal alluvial deposits before discharging into the sea rather than into one of the many coastal étangs or "pools". The rivers and tributaries are as follows:
Golo (Latin Tavola): From Col de Verghio eastward to the Tyrrhenian
Sea south of La Marana; 82 kilometres.
Calasima: From Calasima village.

The food of Corsica can best be defined as a fusion of the French and Italian cuisines, due to its close geographical positions with the two countries. Popular foods such as pizza, pasta, escargot, and éclairs can be found everywhere.
Tourism plays a major role in the Corsican economy. The island's pleasant climate, beautiful mountains and breathtaking coastlines make it a popular destination among the French and other Western Europeans. However, the island has not had the same level of intensive development as other parts of the Mediterranean and is thus relatively unspoiled. Tourism is particularly concentrated in the area around Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio in the south of the island and Calvi in the northwest.
Ajaccio is a commune in France. It is the capital of the territorial collectivity of Corsica and the prefecture of the department of Corse-du-Sud. The geopolitical arrangements of the commune are slightly different from those typical of Corsica and France. Usually an arrondissement includes cantons and a canton includes one to several communes including the chef-lieu, "chief place", from which the canton takes its name. The city of Ajaccio is one commune, but it contains six cantons, Cantons 1-6, and a fraction of Canton 7. The latter contains five other communes: Bastelicaccia, Alata, Afa, Appietto and Villanova, making a total of six communes for the seven cantons of Ajaccio.
