Crannogs, some facts, and a list of crannogs

Crannogs were structures built in Scotland, Ireland and Wales,

My picture of a crannog

But here is ome more stuff abou them

There many hillforts in Ireland in the era when Rome ruled Britain and afterwards, but also crannogs as in Scotland and for years before.

100s Crannog villages, man-made isles, on wood stilts in lakes,
Also well defended bases, of families, or tribal groups,

With on them from boats, torches, food, singing, families, etc., clothes, ropes,
The crannogs seem to have existed from the 4th millennia BC, like one in Scotland,
To some still being used in the late Medieval era, but dying out as of new weapons,
Indeed some were used to the 17thC till new methods of ruling,
With in the past forces raiding across, or unable to reach them,

Cattle raiding of plain's common, & a source of prestige for each leader's rough areas,
As plow, you a peasant, see a figure, could be anyone,
On a horse come up other side of a barren small shortly grown grass,
Held valley's hill, a Km wide, deep, steep, but grassy, 2 Km long up there remote,
With fences aswell,

There were even a very small number of crannogs in Wales, just after the fall of Rome, South West Wales, had a tiny amount compared to Scotland or Ireland, and they lasted a short amount of time. It may have been via trade as St David, in his experiences in South West Wales, is endlessly going on about Ireland Wales travel.
