She moved from Luxembourg to Ohio when she was 4 years old.

Denise Johns first entered onto the AVP Tour in 2003, with the 6 foot tall Illinois born Jenelle Koester, and she won a 2003 AVPNext National Championships, so getting into 4 big draws in 2004. In 2005, Johns herself plus Alicia Polzin were 1 of 3 teams to defeat the 2nd and 3rd rank teams on the tour in same tournament.

She got a bachelor degree in architecture from University of Cincinnati, as a scholarship athlete on rowing team for 5 year. She started playing volleyball at 10 in Ohio, plus played indoors across high school. In this era she performed in beach volleyball in summer.

She likes to watch The Daily Show, her fave movie is American Beauty. Her fave band is Pinback, her fave meal lamb with mint sauce and yorkshire pudding, brussel sprouts and chocolate mousse.

If not doing volleyball she would like to be a architect, and compete in in sprint-triathlons.

In 2003 she played 8 games in AVP, in 2004 also 8, but in 2005 her career took off more, with 12 games, and a 5th place in San Diego, and a 5th place in a other competition.

In 2006 14 games, with a 7th place in one competition.

In FIVB she played 3 games in 2005, getting a 9th place in one competition, and in 2006 3 games.

In 2002 she moved to San Diego to further her Volleyball career.

She has beaten Holly McPeak / Jen Kessy and Elaine Youngs / Rachel Wacholder in competitions.

In 2006 she was ranked 14 th in the AVP.

So in 2006 she decided she would compete for England and Great Britain, hoping even long term to reach the Olympics. She formed a partnership with for example Lucy Boulton. who she said had the qualities of a Olympian athleticism, intelligence, and drive. She for instabnce played with her at the Madeira and Korean FIVB competeitions, as part of a British training project. Lucy Boulton is 8 years younger than Denisse, and 5 foot 9 and played with Bath Volleyball,

She has also played with Monique Oliver the other possible pairing with her, who is also 5 foot 9 and is 40 years old, and has played Beach volleyball on a high level since 1990.

The History of British Beach Volleyball in the Olympics, is that in 1996 Amanda Glover and Audrey Cooper played for Britain, and finished 9th but there was no British entrant in 200 or 2004.

She is also a project manager at XA Architecture in San Diego

She was in the club plus varsity rowing teams at University of Cincinnati for five year. In Copley, Ohio, high school she spent 4-5 hours daily swimming, setting 7 school records. Her strong upper body balanced her legs. Also being in the high jump and relays, her 4×400 team won a state title in her senior year. She put Swimming and track ahead of Volleyball before college. But she did used to play against boys in Summer Holidays on a beach when young. She was going to give uyp sports but the university rowing coach kept her in good physique when persuading her to do rowing. She did this before classes in the morning.

As of all her Beach Volleyball, when she entered a tournament in Michigan, she was able to do so well, she was sinpired to enter Beach Volleyball. competitions. Karolyn Kirby her coach was met by her on the beach and she agreed to coach her.

She has dual citizenship and hopes to be in the Olympics as a British competitor in 2008 in Beijing, and hopes even more so to be at London 2012.

Her and Boulton also played in Sunny Australia, where they reached the final of a Beach Volleyball tournament playing the likes of the famous Kerri Pottharst

This was in late 2006, it was said Denise would spend Christmas in the states, but noth were in good training to reach the Olympics. With the new investment in sport Britain has had since a notable decline in Olympic medals in the late 1990s.
