born November 16, 1967, Brooklyn, Michigan,
DeNecochea, for a couple of years was on a 4-person tour, in this she got selected as a surprise of the year in 96, then was in the 96 League Championship select.
She played ion teams that won a quite large 8 events, and in the professional indoor circuit in US & Europe for 5 seasons.
She co-captained Tennessee's volleyball team in 88 while there for college, and was their MVP in 87 & 88. In this her team won the All-Southeastern Conference in 87 and 88. This was at a time, when it was not so common to have such tall women, although they were still tall ladies.
Then she joined the AVP tour in 1999. her best position, was with Liz Masakayan during a event in Santa Barbara 2001.
Though not seeded at the top her team was able to win from 7th seeds, a rare event.
This was the last of Masakayan's 47 titles. The partnership earned Bronze Medal 2001's FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour in Fortaleza, Brazil.
DeNecochea has been in the top 11 of 4 out of 5 past years. The only time she was not was when she had a daughter called Joel.
She partners
now with Tammy Leibl a Olympic Medalist from Barcelona. Diane is almost 40 and
Tammy is over 40, but both are still able to do well against younger ladies, which
means maybe even when they are mums, that they could possibly both in alliance
beat most young men at volleyball, probably actually, that would be fun to lose
against them when you are young. Tammy was born in 1965 and is 5 foot 11. It may
show experience fused with a contuing desire to play fits well in Beach Volleyball,
as there are quite allot of women who in many other sports would be too old to
play, even though Beach Volleyball attracts loads of Volleyballers, and maybe
more than before. Maybe the women who are young now, will still be at the top
in their late 30s, for some reason. Or maybe Indoor Volleyball suits taller women
and they do not suit Beach Volleyball as much, so there are less Indoor Volleyballers
joining Beach Volleyball that suit it so much. And there are few other ways of
becoming a beach Volleyballer ther than being a indoor player first. But then
again most of the women in the top seeds are younger than this partnership so
it may be just that experience is of better use than in other sports. It is unusual
that there are loads of 6 foot 5 and 6 foot 6 women in Indoor Volleyball, but
not in Beach Volleyball, even though Beach earns allot, so maybe I am right there.
5 foot 9 women are common in Beach Volleyball, but rare in top teams in Indoor,
where 6 foot is sometimes short for a team. So I think I am right. And Diane is
a rare very tall woman who is able to do Beach, maybe thats the top limit as of
something to do with the way the court is or something, or as most 6 foot 4 women,
are not with the same physique as her, maybe she is more suited to this than other
6 foot 4 women. Or maybe it is just as very very tall women did not enter it and
now they are starting to with the likes of Fopma, as maybe it was just coaches
who said be a indoor volleyballer, to 6 5 women and now such towering ladies,
are deciding themselves to also try at Beach too, when others were just doing
what coaches advised, when maybe they did not even want to do volleyball at the
time, they were just persuaded to do it. I suspect there will be more very tall
women, but still many 5 7 and 5 10 women, as maybe Beach can have shorter but
still tall ladies. That is what I think shall happen. She is I think the tallest
woman in beach volleyball, that is in the top 10 at the moment.
