She started playing the game of basketball at 10, then moved to Mocow with her family in 1988.

Elena Baranova is a professional basketball player. Currently, she is a Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) player who plays for the New York Liberty.

Baranova started playing professional basketball at age 16. She went the Moscow Academy of Sport where she became a Master of Sport in the Russian Jargon.

Baranova was assigned to the Utah Starzz on January 22, 1997. And was later traded with Utah's second-round pick in the 2000 WNBA Draft to the Miami Sol in exchange for Kate Starbird and the 8th pick in the 2000 WNBA Draft (December 15th, 1999). She was taken in the 2003 WNBA Dispersal draft by the New York Liberty.

She tied the WNBA single-game record for most three-point field goals made in a single WNBA game. She is also a member of the 2001 WNBA Eastern Conference All-Star team.Averaged
Baranova's scoring and rebounding ability helped the women's Soviet National Basketball Team win the gold in the European Games in 1991 as well as the 1992 Summer Olympics. She was also in the Russian team which won the Olympic Bronze in 2006, which is among the best achievements the largest Republic in the world has ever won. From Moscow, to icy isles in the North and east. She also played for a while for a men's team Mytischi Bison, who were a good team, and she did not do badly. She was MVP at the 1998 European Championships and top rebouunder in the 1996 Olympics.

Her Clubs in her career include "dynamo" (Moscow), A Israeli team Elitzur Kholon in 1992-94, THE TSSKA CSKA, (CENTRAL SPORTS CLUB OF THE ARMY) (Moscow), Fenerbache Istanbul (Turkey), Villa Pini Chieti (Italy), Utah Starzz, Miami Sol, New York Liberty. She had a contract dispute with a team in Russia for a while, but is still a active player.

In the WNBA she says they do warm ups, before a game then get taped. She says she is happy at how well she perfomed at the 2004 Olympics.

She says that playing with a Men's team helped up her abilities, and said she would like the EuroLeague to become a world league wityh Asian and Australian teams.

Her best friends in WNBA are Becky Hammon and KB Sharp.
