Aerial Working Platform

AKA lift table, lift platform, Lifting platform, Aerial platform, or cherry picker

An aerial work platform (AWP) a device used to raise and lower people or equipment, usually for a non-permanent purpose ( maintenance, construction work). This distinguishes them from, for example, elevators. They are usually compact and can be easily moved, distinguishing them from most types of cranes, who in turn, can y lift much greater weights.

It requires a Control System.
There are a wide variety of AWPs, usually distinguished by the way they unfold from the rest state and lift weight.

Types by motive means
Wheeled, non-powered:

usually smaller, and cannot move under their own power. Tend to be towed behind a motor vehicle when used. Can be light enough to be transported in a pickup truck bed, and can usually be moved through a standard doorway.
Wheeled, powered
Usually relatively small, but have a sort of drive, which is mainly used to move within the working area, and is not intended for long distance.
Tracked, powered
The midsize or large AWPs are similar to wheeled, powered AWPs, but are tracked to provide them with the ability to move through rough, unstable ground, such as construction sites. Often they have rubber tracks to enable movement in areas where it is muddy or areas that are sensitive to tracks.
Truck-mounted

Tthey may be used by fire brigades, utilities companies, or window cleaners. These AWPs are usually larger, and are mounted to a truck or van (or potentially railcar) base. This provides them with stability, and more importantly, allows them to travel on the road or rail net once collapsed.
Spiders / Ragno
These AWPs are popular throughout the UK and Europe. They can be supplied with either wheeled or tracked chassis and are distinguished by their multiple spider-like outriggers which serve to stabilize the AWP. The outriggers allow the machine to have relatively low weight but maintain great boom lengths, allowing them to be used on ground which is delicate and / or cannot take large point loads. Are also very compact when stowed, allowing many to enter buildings through normal doorways.

Articulated lifts: AKA Cherry picker

Also called boom lifts or cherry pickers, from their invention for fruit harvesting, these use multiple jointed sections to unfold to lift a platform or bucket. Usually relatively small, as the boom lengths or jointed sections are limited. They counteract the disadvantage by being some of the most flexible AWPs.
Articulated lifts are also often telescoping lifts. A cherry picker, is a device that consists of a platform or bucket at the end of a hydraulic lifting system, mounted on the back of a large vehicle such as a truck, or sometimes a stand alone trailer. The bucket is designed for a person to stand in and work from. Often a duplicate set of controls that are used to manipulate the position of the bucket will be available to the person in the bucket, allowing the operator to position himself. The lifting arms of some cherry pickers are capable of telescoping to adjust the reach of the device.
Scissor lifts:
Use linked, folding supports that draw together. While smaller, battery powered machines used in warehouses for stock checking, or in maintenance tasks, large diesel powered machines with 4WD are used on construction sites for cladding installation or heavier construction work.

Screw lifts

Screw lifts use screwlike threads to extend.

Rack and pinion
Rack and pinion lifts utilize a pinion driving a straight toothed rack.
Telescoping lifts
They have multiple overlapping sections to move into and out of one another. Telescoping lifts are also often articulated lifts.
