Construction Foreman / Works Manager


The leader of a work crew.

A system in which large groups of men perform work grouped together under the supervision of a foreman who also takes on the responsibility to control the quality of work manufactured.

In construction, the foreman is the worker or tradesman who is in charge of the construction crew. Generally a construction worker with many years of experience and talent, the foreman is a wealth of knowledge and a key asset to a project. A good foreman is said by many engineers to be the keystone of projects.

Abiliy required can be: (not every of these)
Teach/ Employ Geometry of Framing/Cabinetry; any Scale/Design.

Design - Layout - Install :

Foundation / Footing Systems.

Concrete Form System.

Cut Wood Stair and Roof Systems.

Roof Truss Systems.

Architectural Façades

May train new workers

Read blueprints skillfully

Confer with jobsite Superintendent, or other foremen

Might have to speak different languages if working with other nations

Electrical, concrete and excavation

Manage a budget for all supplies, equipment, and salaries.

Obtain bids from subcontractors, order materials, schedule projects, and follow each project through to completion.

Types of Foreman:

Many of these jobs have transferable skill, so often you can work as many different types

Landscape Construction Foreman: Horticulture

CDL, bi-lingual, high end construction experience, irrigation experience, able to read and install a job off of a plan (this is major), job and crew management skills, and general plant knowledge

Concrete foreman : Concrete Layout, concrete formwork, and concrete flatwork.

Segmental Bridge Construction Foreman ( segmental concrete construction)

A segmental bridge is a bridge built in short sections (called segments), i.e., one piece at a time, as opposed to traditional methods that build a bridge in very large sections. The bridge is made of concrete that is either cast-in-place (constructed fully in its final location) or precast concrete (built at another location and then transported to their final location for placement in the full structure).
