Construction Skills Certification Scheme

A card scheme to prove you are competent in your occupation and have health and safety awareness.

CSCS is fast becoming an industry standard. Organisations such as the Major Contractors Group (MCG), National Contractors Federation (NCF), Major Home Builders Group (MHBG) and Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) have supported the scehme and are committed to a qualified workforce by the end of 2010.

A green card is available to operatives who carry out basic site skills only. Any involved in skilled work are expected to apply for a skilled blue or gold card.

RED CARD - TRAINEE - Trainee card is for new entrants to occupations in construction industry.

Divided to two Trainee Cards (Craft and Operative) and Trainee Card (Technical, Supervisory and Management)

Qualify for card if you are a trainee, registered for an NVQ or SVQ but have not yet achieved level 2 or 3.

BLUE CARD - EXPERIENCED WORKER - Available to anyone: with the job experience. You have an NVQ or SVQ level 2 or 3, or you have served an approved apprenticeship.

BLUE CARD - SKILLED WORKER - If you achieve NVQ or SVQ level 2 or you have complete an apprenticeship.

GOLD CARD - SKILLED WORKER - Qualify for gold skilled card if you achieve NVQ or SVQ level 3, or apprenticeship.

BLUE CARD - EXPERIENCED MANAGER - Available to everyone with on job experience. If you have an NVQ or SVQ level 3, 4 or 5, or member of specific professional institutions

PLATINUM CARD - MANAGER - Available for manager occupations. Apply for card through industry accreditation, for three years from release date, or achievement of an NVQ or SVQ level 4.

black card - Senior manager occupations. Apply for card through industry accreditation. Industry accreditation is open for limited time. Achievement of an NVQ or SVQ level 5 in relevant occupation, can be used to apply for CSCS card.

WHITE CARD - CONSTRUCTION RELATED OCCUPATION ) - new card covers occupations, not covered by CSCS card.

YELLOW CARD - Regular visitor - Introduced for people who frequently visit a construction site, but no construction site skill
