Delays in Construction


These can cause a Late project.
Construction delays are delays in progress compared to the baseline construction schedule.

Small projects

Construction delays in residential and light construction are often a result of miscommunication between contractors, subcontractors, and property owners. They can be due to the contractor having numerous projects on the go. A dodgy builder may just be playing tricks with the customer. Or there may be illnesses in a small workforce, or the customer may require that work is out back due to work. These types of misunderstandings and unrealistic expectations are usually avoided through the use of detailed critical path schedules, which specify the work, and timetable to be used.

Big projects

In more complex projects, unforeseen issues can arise in the original contract, and so other legal construction forms are subsequently used.

In construction projects, delays happen all the time. It's what is being delayed that determines if a project, or some other deadline such as a milestone, is to be completed late.

Categorize delays:

Critical or Non-Critical
Excusable or Non-Excusable
Concurrent or Non-Concurrent
Compensable or Non-Compensable

Famous delays in work projects include Wembley, the channel tunnel rail link. Often these delays can be due to planning permission, or due to contractual agreements which plaice an empahsis on blame causing contractor to shift the blame. Some say contractual agreements with strict penalties can make it more diffiulct for a big project to come in on time, because companies work harder to shift the blame than to do the project. Some argue rewards for good work are a better measure.
