Steel erector

A steel erector is a tradesman / worker in the construction industry, who installs structural steel frames of building and engineering projects. The components would usually have be prefabricated, including all welded joints. Steel erectors assemble structural frames in accordance with engineering drawings. Structural steel installation is usually crane assisted and utilizes elevated work platforms or scissor lifts as a structure progresses. Steel erectors also fix metal decking, safety netting and edge rails to aid safe working practice. The work is carried out in teams using powered / hand tools to bolt steelwork. Steel erectors also are involved in dismantling steel frames.

The work is often done outdoors at heights and physically demanding.

A supervisor of the steel erection team is required.

They work on single- and multi-storey office developments, housing,
factory units, sports stadia, bridges, gantries, transport crash barriers etc:.

Structural steel is steel construction material, a profile, formed with a specific shape and certain standards of chemical composition and strength. Structural steel shape, size, composition, strength, storage, etc, is regulated in most industrialised countries.

An aerial work platform (AWP), also called a lift table or lift platform, or cherry picker, is a device used to raise and lower people or equipment, usually for a non permanent purpose, such as maintenance or construction work. This distinguishes them from, for example, elevators. They are also usually relatively compact and can be easily moved, distinguishing them from most cranes, who in turn, usually lift greater weights. Often these devices are required in in confined spaces.
