The Highlands, is the largest county in Britain, it covers an area larger than Belgium, and larger than the South East of England. It has the highest mountains, in the Brittish Isles, and the largest lakes in Britain, and off the coast are the largest isles of the mainland.

It has a population of around 250,000, including Inverness, with it's 60,000 people.

It is famous for it's tourism, for scenery, and beauty spots.

It is famous for places like Ben Nevis, Ben Macdui, Loch Ness, and it's monster, Urquart Castle, Eilann Donan castle. Brora, and more, like Wick, and John o Groats

It has roads, connecting to Inverness, from South and East, of main types, and many more.

It has the Skye Bridge which connects Kyle of Lochalsh to Skye.

The Isle of Skye, is the second largest island off Britain, and has thousands of people, including Portree, and Sleat, and mountains that can be seen from the mainland, sometimes with cloud below, as if they are floating.

Across from Skye, is the isle of Lewis, and the Western Isles, This area is the bastion of Gaelic, and Wee free Presbyterians. Seeing Gaelic, and strong recognition of the Sabbath remain in a rural area.

Back across to the mainland, a few miles North of Kyle is Plockton.
Plockton is a small village of 100s of people. It is where they filmed Hamish Macbeth, and is a 19thC construction. With isles, in it's bay, and old cottages, and white washed homes, and fishing boats.

The major football teams in the Highlands are Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and Ross County.

In the mid 90s they left the Highland League, to join the Scottish League, and rose up the tables, beating Celtic and other major teams, respectively while in lower leagues, in cups.

With Caley Thistle reaching the Premier, and still being there, and Ross County a team near the top of the 1st Divison.

The Highland league still survives, but has less cup shocks of beating league sides, as of losing what were including mergers 3 major, teams, and since lost another to the SFL.

Other teams include Brora Rangers, and lots of other teams.

The Highlands, is famed as in earlier history being the base for Picts, and Highland Clans, unconquered to centralised rule till the 18thC, after Culloden. and it's post battle, massacre of thousands of Highlanders.

The Highlands sent troops to fight for Scottish Independence being a bastion at times. And also would send many troops after the 18thC as of recruiters to the Napoloenic war, and then on concription, to WW1, and WW2.

It is famous for the devastating Highland Clearances, which killed thousands of people in the 19thC, evicting many many people.

In the 20thC it survived with farming and tourism, and a growing Inverness, rising to being among the most populous cities in Scotland. As a base for health, and more, even becoming a city in the 21st.

The Highlands is also famous as the base of shinty, and this mostly amateur game's cups.

Inverness has a catle a scene of many old things, from jails, to events and small battles, and more, which do not happen in todays more peaceful democractic times
