H.H. Raj Rajeshwar Maharajadhiraj Shri Hanwant Singh of Jodhpur (16 June 1923 - 26 January 1952)
Hanwart Singh was ruler of the
Indian princely state of Jodhpur from 1947 until 1952. He was a Polo player and
is accredited as world polo champion, he was a fine magician as well. His Highness
succeeded his father as Maharaja of Jodhpur on 9 June 1947.
He had full faith in democracy. In 1952, after Indian independence and formation of Rajasthan as a state within India he formed a new political party, contested elections and won a majority. He died on 26 January 1952 in a plane crash at the young age of just 28.
The famous Polo Heritage building designed
by Gold Straw, which was built for Brig. Duncan who was Commander of Jodhpur state
forces, was given to Late Lt. Col. Kishan Singh of Bhanwari for a present by HH
Maharaja Hanwant Singh of Jodhpur.
