Lowther Vacations
The region of the River Lowther is an interesting area for many people to visit. Some may want to see the historic sites the landscpae the views, the scenery and the entertainment or cultural venues. Some may want to see the river, or to go use the river for river sports. Some many want to use the region to see the culture of the north West of England.
The
River Lowther flows through Cumbria in England. It is a tributary of the River
Eamont which in turn is a tributary of the River Eden which flows into the Solway
Firth near Carlisle.
The Lowther begins with the confluence of the Keld Gill and the Keld Dub near the village of Keld.

Keld (or Keilde) is a hamlet in the English county of Cumbria. It lies within the civil parish of Shap. On the banks of the River Lowther it is a mile southwest of Shap and falls within that village's civil parish, Shap Abbey is nearby. Keld's medieval chapel in noted for its unusual simplicity.
Askham is a village. Nearby are the magnificent remains of Lowther Castle, the site of the annual Lowther Show, a three day event of country pursuits.
Eamont Bridge is a small village immediately to the south of Penrith, Cumbria. The village is named after the River Eamont and straddles the boundary between the ancient counties of Cumberland and Westmorland.
Lowther Castle is a country house in the historic county of Westmorland, which now forms part of the modern county of Cumbria, England. It has belonged to the Lowther family, latterly the Earls of Lonsdale, since the Middle Ages. In the late 17th century John Lowther, 1st Viscount Lonsdale rebuilt the family home, then known as Lowther Hall, on a grand scale. The current building is a castellated mansion which was built by Robert Smirke between 1806 and 1814, and it was only at that time that Lowther was designated a castle.

The river is formed by the outflow from Ullswater in the Lake District, later augmented by Dacre Beck from the west and the River Lowther which carries the water from Haweswater north to the Eamont at Penrith.
The
Cumbrian dialect is spoken throughout the region. There is quite a large variation
in accent and words, especially between north and south and west coast.
