The island of Ma-ui or Maui is the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands. Maui is part of the state of Hawaii and is the largest island in Maui County. Three other islands, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and Molokai, also belong to Maui County. Together, the four islands are known as Ma-ui Nui. Kahului is the largest town on the island. Wailuku is the seat of Maui County.

Kahoolawe is the smallest of the 8 main volcanic islands in the Hawaiian Islands. It is located 7 miles ( southwest of Maui and southeast of La-nai and is long by 6 miles across. Total area is 44.6 square miles. The highest point is the crater of Lua Makika at the summit of Puu Moaulanui, which is 1,477 feet above sea level. The island is relatively dry because the low elevation fails to generate much orographic precipitation from the northeastern trade winds and it is located in the rain shadow of Maui's 10,023 feet high East Maui Volcano (Haleakala-). More than one quarter of the island has been eroded down to saprolitic hardpan.

Molokai or Molokai is an island in the Hawaiian archipelago. It is 38 by 10 miles, making it the fifth largest of the main Hawaiian Islands and the 27th largest island in the United States. It lies east of Oahu across the 25-mile wide Kaiwi Channel and north of La-nai, separated from it by the Kalohi Channel. The lights of Honolulu are visible at night from the west end of Molokai, while nearby La-nai and Maui are clearly visible from anywhere along the south shore of the Island.

Molokai is known as the long time residence of Father Damien de Veuster, the Belgium priest who cared for sufferers of Hansen's Disease. Historically, a small north shore colony on Molokai Island, Kalaupapa, was a refuge for sufferers of Hansen's Disease, also known as leprosy. There are no active cases of Hansen's Disease on Molokai Island. Those who continue to live in the Kalaupapa colony are descendant families of the previously afflicted disease patients.

La-nai or Lanai is the 6th largest of the Hawaiian Islands. It is also known as the Pineapple Island because of its past as an island wide pineapple plantation. The only town is La-nai City, a small settlement. The island is somewhat comma-shaped, with a width of 18 miles in the longest direction.

Wailuku is a c place in Maui County, Hawaii, United States. It is the county seat of Maui County. Wailuku is located just west of Kahului, at the mouth of the I-ao Valley. In the early 20th century Wailuku was the main tourist destination on Maui, though it has since been eclipsed with the rise of the resort towns such as Kaanapali, so much that there are no hotels to speak of in Wailuku. Historic sites in the town include Kaahumanu Church (named after one of Hawaii's great monarchs, Queen Kaahumanu) which dates to 1876, and the Bailey House, also a 19th century relic that is home to a history museum. There are two ancient temples near Wailuku, called heiaus — the Halekii Heiau and the Pihanakalani Heiau. Both date back hundreds of years, and were used for religious purposes by the native Hawaiians.

Kahului is the largest town on the Hawaiian island of Maui and is located along the north shore of central Maui. Kahului hosts Maui's main airport (Kahului Airport), deep-draft harbor, light industrial areas, and commercial shopping centers. It is a place within Maui County, Hawaii

Kahului is the retail center for Maui residents and there are several malls and major stores (including department stores in the Queen Kaahumanu Center); other significant groupings of stores are in La-haina- such as the Lahina Cannery Mall, the Happy Valley area of Wailuku, Maui Market Place and Maui Mall, which are both also located in Kahului, and the Shops of Wailea in Kihei. Retailing changed greatly with the arrival of big-box retailers from the U.S. Mainland, including Wal-Mart and Home Depot. Kahului is directly adjacent to Wailuku located on the west side of town.

Kahului is not generally considered a tourist destination, but does feature the Alexander and Baldwin Sugar Museum, Kanaha Pond State Wildlife Sanctuary, Kanaha Beach County Park, and the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.
