.
SUPA is the Schools and Universities Polo Association,
an organisation which governs and controls junior polo in the United Kingdom.
In addition to ensuring the safety and well being of school and university polo players, SUPA also lobbies on behalf of these groups at meetings of the Hurlingham Polo Association, which governs all UK polo.
Founded in 1991, as Schools
Polo Association, it then expanded its involvement to include universities in
1994 and Junior Schools in 1997. S.U.P.A.'s aims are:
to promote and develop
schools and universities polo
to act as a central point of reference for advice,
guidance and encouragement
to organise tournaments and representative teams,
and
to seek and distribute financial support so far as possible.
In addition
to supporting an active winter programme of training and development, through
grants, SUPA organises four National Arena championships: Open, Intermediate,
Girls and Junior. The summer programme features five National Tournaments held
annually in June/July, one for Junior Schools, the National Girls Schools, Senior
Schools, a Combined and Intermediate Senior Schools, an Under 16 Tournament and
a National Universities Tournament which features Novice, Intermediate and Open
Divisions. Traditionally, SUPA organises representative matches for Universities,
Schools and Ladies' teams and international matches.
