Shandur is the highest polo ground in the world.
The sport is commonly played at the festival to a music band with a big drum.

Shandur Top (el. 12,200 ft.) is a high mountain pass that connects Chitral to Gilgit in Pakistan.
The top is flat, a plateau and can be crossed between late April and early November. The grade is very gradual, and the area is crossed by small streams of trout.
Polo is a popular sport in Chitral and an annual polo festival between Gilgit and Chitral at the highest polo ground in the world, at the Shandur Pass.
Shandur Top is one of the four major mountain passes to enter Chitral. The others
are Dorah Pass from Badakshan in Afghanistan, Lowari Pass from Dir, and Broghol
from the Wakhan Corridor in Afghanistan. The people who live on both sides of
Shandur Top speak the Khowar language.
The polo ground is about 168 Km from the main town Chitral.
Chitral
Town, capital of the Chitral District, is situated on the west bank of the Chitral
(or Kunar) River. The town is at the foot of Tirich Mir, the highest peak of the
Hindu Kush, 7,708 m or 25,289 ft high. It has a population of 20,000, while the
District (of 14,833 km² or 5,727 sq mi), has a population of 300,000. The
altitude of the valley is 1,100 m or 3,700 ft.
Gilgit River is a tributary of the Indus River, and flows past the town of Gilgit. It is located in the Northern Areas of Kashmir, Pakistan.
