Jessica Ann Sierra
born November 11, 1985 in Tampa, Florida
American singer and was the tenth place finalist on the fourth season of American Idol. She was a third finalist eliminated, on March 30, 2005.
Biography
Sierra
is from Tampa, Florida, and auditioned in Orlando. She was a contestant on Star
Search before auditioning for Idol, and was a nanny. Sierra started singing in
church at the age of 3. As a teenager, she performed for Presidents Bill Clinton
and George W. Bush in singing and dancing ensembles. She auditioned for Idol in
the second season, but was rejected.
She was eliminated on March 30, during 1990s music week, after she sang LeAnn Rimes' "On the Side of Angels", surprising some fans since Simon Cowell had previously stated she was one of the strongest female vocalists in the competition.
Sierra dated fellow American Idol 4 contestant, Nikko Smith for several months. In an April 2006 article in the Tennessean, Sierra confirmed the relationship but said they broke up shortly after New Year's.
Post Idol
A 59 year old man from California
was arrested on January 17, 2006 at the home of Sierra's grandmother. Tampa police
reported that Daniel Young left at least 40 voicemail messages telling Sierra
he loved her and was willing to go to jail for her. Sierra is cooperating with
the US Department of Justices National Stalking Resource Center, and will
be featured in a national campaign to promote awareness of the risks of and remedies
on stalking; Diane Stuart, Director of the Office on Violence Against Women, US
Department of Justice, will be working with Sierra.
In late 2006, Jessica recorded a song, "Unbroken", for a Toys "R" Us Exclusive CD that came with a purchase of a Sony CD player.
Sierra resides in Nashville, Tennessee and is writing and recording with producer Nick Brophy. Brophy has worked with The Rolling Stones, Avril Lavigne and Phil Vassar. Jessica is also writing songs with Joy Vassar, wife of Phil Vassar. Jessica is managed by Verge Management.
On April 29, 2007, Sierra was arrested in South Tampa's Hyde Park. At the Hyde Park Cafe, she was accused of throwing a cocktail glass at another patron's head, striking him above the eye, according to Tampa police. When police arrested the 21 year old singer, she was uncooperative, police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said. After she was placed in the squad car, officers had to threaten her with leg restraints, Davis said, because Sierra repeatedly kicked the car windows so hard the officers thought they would break. When Sierra was transported to the Orient Road Jail, police found a small bag of cocaine in her purse. She denied the cocaine was hers, according to her arrest report, but when asked, said that no one besides the police had possession of her purse that day. She was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of cocaine and introduction of contraband into a detention facility. Sierra was released on $11,500 bail.
Less than a week after the incident, Wisam M. Hadad, 28, filed a lawsuit in Hillsborough County civil court division against Sierra and the Hyde Park Cafe. He is seeking damages in excess of $15,000. His attorney, Matthew Przybycin of Dennis Hernandez & Associates, PA, said the law suit was filed speedily so witness accounts and any surveillance tape would be preserved.
