She played volleyball
in high school, and was raised in Laguna Beach, and was named a California State
Player of the Year. She got a degree from the University of Colorado in Communications
where she was also named Big 12 All-Conference twice in Volleyball.
Rachel Wacholder, is a model and beach volleyball player. She does sports modeling and commericials in the off season. In 2006, she was the No. 2 seed on the AVP tour along with her partner, beach volleyball veteran Elaine Youngs. During the 2005 AVP tour, Wacholder and Youngs dealt top-seeded Kerri Walsh and Misty May a surprise defeat at the Huntington Beach Open, and were defeated by only narrow margins in several other tournaments that year. Her exposure as a star player increased dramatically as a result, and is considered one of only a handful of players capable of dealing the Kerri Walsh-Misty May combination a defeat. However, in August 2006, Wacholder and Youngs split just before the biggest American tournament of the year, the 2006 Manhattan Beach Open. No official reason for the split has been given. Wacholder and her new partner, paired with Jen (Kessy) Boss defeated Youngs and new partner Nicole Brannagh in their first meeting at the Coney Island Open.
Wacholder has an increasing support base from AVP fans, most notably by followers who feel that the nearly relentless wins of Kerri Walsh and Misty May makes Professional Beach Volleyball too one-sided and somewhat boring over time. Rachel's very youthful and healthy looking characteristics, despite now being over thirty, also make her very popular with fans.
At the end of the 2005 season, she was voted the best defensive player and most improved player of the year.
Wacholder currently resides in Redondo Beach, California with boyfriend Sean Scott, a fellow AVP.
She has won over 158,810 dollars in AVP, and almost half a million including FIVB in vollyball alone. She says if not playing Volleyball she would like to be science or have gone to Medical School.
She won the award BVA Most Improved Player 2000.
Her fave movie: Shawshank Redemption. Fave Band: Norah Jones, TV ER. She said she would like Natalie Portman to play her in any movie about her.
She says she would rather be 2 inches taller than be able to jump 4 inches higher as it would be too tiring otherwise. Sometimes people think she is Misty May.
She started playing Beach Volleyball
in 1999, a year when she won 500 dollars, then she started entering FIVB international
events and soon was earning 10s of thousands a year and now gets 100s of thousands
a year in Vollyball alone.
