Accra is the capital, and most populous city of Ghana. The city also doubles as the capital of the Greater Accra Region, and of the Accra Metropolis District of which it is coterminous with. It is the administrative, communications, and economic center of the country. Accra has been Ghana's capital since 1877, and contains public buildings reflecting its transition from a 19th century suburb of Victoriasborg to the modern metropolis it is today.

The University of Ghana is the oldest and largest of the five Ghanaian public universities. The University is mainly based at Legon, about twelve kilometres north east of the centre of Accra.

Osu Castle, also known as Fort Christiansborg or simply the Castle, has been the seat of government in Ghana. It is located in Osu, Accra on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean's Gulf of Guinea. The fort dates back to the 16th century and has changed hands many times. The first substantial fort was built by the Danish in the 1660s, though rebuilding has occurred on many occasions since. It began to serve as the seat of government under British colonial rule.

Swalaba is a neighborhood in Ghana’s capital city Accra. It is located in the city center between Korle Woko and Jamestown. Its narrow streets called "longo longo" makes Swalaba resemble a labyrinth and it is known to be difficult to get around for anyone not familiar with the area.
