Atlanta Airport Hotels

Hotels by airports in the Atlanta region are often useful as some may want a hotel by an airport so they can have a hotel right beside the airport. They may have a flight delayed and need somewhere to stay. They may be in a hurry and require hotels that are on call for them when they come off the flight. They may want hotel to do a business deal in. They may want a luxury hotel or small hotel. They may want a sound proof hotel room so they do not hear flights. They may want a hotel by a army airport as they may require the military airport.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, known locally as Atlanta Airport, Hartsfield Airport, and Hartsfield-Jackson, is located seven miles south of the central business district of Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Hartsfield-Jackson had its beginnings with a five-year, rent free lease on 287 acres that had been the home of an abandoned auto racetrack. The lease was signed on April 16, 1925, by Mayor Walter Sims, who committed the city to develop it into an airfield. As part of the agreement, the property was renamed Candler Field after its former owner, Coca-Cola tycoon and former Atlanta mayor Asa Candler. The first flight into Candler Field was on September 15, 1926, a Florida Airways mail plane flying from Jacksonville. In May 1928, Pitcairn Aviation began service to Atlanta, followed in June 1930 by Delta Air Service. Later these two airlines, known as Eastern Air Lines and Delta Air Lines, respectively, would both use Atlanta as their chief hubs. Candler Field's first control tower was opened March 1939 and in October 1940 the U.S. government declared it an air base. During World War II, the airport doubled in size and set a record of 1,700 takeoffs and landings in a single day, making it the nation's busiest airport in terms of flight operation.

Cobb County Airport - McCollum Field has been a public airport located 21 miles northwest of the central business district of Atlanta, immediately south of the city of Kennesaw in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. McCollum Field opened in 1960 with a single 4,000-foot runway. There was a stub taxiway connecting the runway with the ramp area, 60,000 square feet of aprons, and a single administration building. The airport steadily grew over the next 30 years with the greatest developments occurring in the early 1990s.

Cherokee County Airport has been a small municipal airport located in north-central Cherokee County, Georgia, about halfway between the town of Ball Ground and the city of Canton, Georgia (various records list either one as the official address).

Clayton County Airport - Tara Field, formerly known as Henry County Airport - Morris Field, or Bear Creek Airport is has been a municipal airport located about 3 miles west of the central business district (CBD) of Hampton, Georgia, on the far south side of metro Atlanta in western Henry County, Georgia, USA.

Cartersville Airport has been a public airport located 3 miles southwest of the city of Cartersville in Bartow County, Georgia, USA.

Gwinnett County Airport at Briscoe Field has been a municipal airport located about two miles (3km) northeast of Lawrenceville, Georgia, in the United States.

Newnan Coweta County Airport has been a public airport in Coweta County, Georgia, United States. Located five miles south of the central business district of Newnan.

DeKalb-Peachtree Airport has been a municipal general aviation airport located in Chamblee, Georgia, just northeast of Atlanta. It is operated by the local government of DeKalb County, Georgia, and is also known commonly as Peachtree-DeKalb Airport, or simply PDK. Other names (rarely used) include Peachtree Airport, DeKalb Airport, or DeKalb County Airport. It is more commonly called "Peachtree DeKalb". ASOS weather reports are produced 24 hours per day as "Chamblee". On the radio, however, it is referred to as "Peachtree Tower" or "Peachtree Ground". The airport originally began during early World War II as Naval Air Station Atlanta, now located in Marietta on the south side of Dobbins Air Reserve Base. The property was part of Camp Gordon, a World War I era training camp. Leased from the county by the USA Navy, it was converted from military to civilian use from 1957 to 1959. The former barracks located there during the war became classrooms in late 1948 for Southern Technical Institute, a new engineering technology school created by Georgia Tech for former soldiers. Like NAS Atlanta, that school moved around 1958 to land donated by Dobbins, and is now known as Southern Polytechnic State University.

Fulton County Airport at Charlie Brown Field is a local airport located just west of Atlanta, and run by Fulton County of the U.S. state of Georgia. The hundred dollar hamburger is a widely recognized term in the aviation industry, referring to the “fly in” restaurants at or near general aviation airports. Fulton County Airport has hosted one such place, the busy Flight Deck Cafe, located in the main terminal building, which serves Southern-style food to a lunch-time crowd of locals, pilots, and airport personnel.

Naval Air Station Atlanta (NAS Atlanta) has been a military airport located 1 mile south of Marietta, Georgia. It is located immediately south of Dobbins Air Reserve Base in and shares its runways. Before 1959 NAS Atlanta was located at what is now the Peachtree-DeKalb Airport (PDK), slightly east of Atlanta. In April 1955, Congress appropriated more than $4 million to start building a new Naval Air Station at a more suitable location to allow longer runways. The site selected was a large military reservation jointly occupied by Dobbins Air Force Base and the Lockheed Company, between Marietta and Smyrna. The new air station was completed in April 1959.

Dobbins Air Reserve Base or Dobbins ARBhas been a United States air reserve base located in Marietta, Georgia, a suburb about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta. It serves as the home station of the 94th Airlift Wing and its fleet of Hercules C-130 aircraft, and is the headquarters for Twenty-Second Air Force. It is also home to the Army Aviation Service Facility #2 (AASF#2), the Georgia Army National Guard and their fleet of UH-60 Blackhawks. Dobbins is also home to Marine and Navy Reserve units. Originally intended by Cobb County as an alternative to Atlanta's Candler Field, it began in 1941 as Rickenbacker Field. It was named for former army pilot and then-current Eastern Air Lines president Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, for whom Miami's Rickenbacker Causeway is also named. The boost needed to build the airport came in 1940 when USA President Franklin D. Roosevelt selected General Lucius D. Clay to head a new Civil Aeronautics Administration program of airstrip construction, some 450 to 500 being built in preparation for possible war. Clay Street in Marietta (now South Marietta Parkway, Georgia 120 South Loop, now mainline Georgia 120) was named after him, in honor of his work in bringing the base and plant to the city. In 1942, with U.S. entry into World War II after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the USA War Department announced on February 19 that it would become Marietta Army Airfield under the USA Army.

Mathis Airport has been a private airport located about two miles northwest of Suwanee, Georgia, in the United States.
