Las Vegas (Spanish = The Meadows) is the most populous city in the state of Nevada, the seat of Clark County, and an internationally renowned major resort city for the gaming industry, shopping, and entertainment. Las Vegas, billed as The Entertainment Capital of the World, is famous for the number of large casino resorts and their associated entertainment. Las Vegas has been popular setting for films and television programs. Outdoor lighting displays are everywhere on the Las Vegas Strip.

Clark County is a county located in the USA state of Nevada.
It contains the city of Las Vegas, the state's most populous city. Las Vegas has been the county seat since the county was created by splitting off a portion of Lincoln County on February 5, 1908. Much of the county was originally part of Pah-Ute County, Arizona Territory before Nevada became a state. The county was named for William Andrews Clark, a Montana copper magnate and United States Senator. Clark was largely responsible for the construction of the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad through the area, a factor heavily contributing to the region's early development.
The Colorado River forms the county's southeastern boundary, with Hoover Dam forming Lake Mead along much of its length. Las Vegas is frequently, yet incorrectly labeled a valley. By definition, Greater Las Vegas is a land basin or bowl, surrounded by four mountain ranges, with nearby Mount Charleston being the highest elevation at 11,918 ft, located to the northwest. Other than the forests on Mount Charleston, the geography in Clark County is a desert. Creosote bushes are the main native vegetation, and the mountains are mostly rocky with little vegetation.
The Colorado River ('Aha Kwahwat in Mojave) is a river in the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico, approximately 1,450 mi (2,330 km) long, draining a part of the arid regions on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. The natural course of the river flows into the Gulf of California, but the heavy use of the river as an irrigation source for the Imperial Valley has desiccated the lower course of the river in Mexico such that it no longer consistently reaches the sea.
Paradise is a census-designated place (CDP) in Clark County, Nevada, United States and a major suburb of Las Vegas. As an unincorporated part of Clark County, it is governed by the Clark County Commission.
Paradise contains McCarran International Airport, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and most of the Las Vegas Strip, including well-known hotels such as Caesars Palace and MGM Grand. Therefore, many tourists visiting Las Vegas actually spend most of their time in Paradise instead of Las Vegas proper. For many of the unincorporated townships south of Las Vegas city limits (including Paradise, Winchester and Spring Valley), the USPS assigns Las Vegas, NV as the last line of their address rather than the township's name, which adds to the confusion of what city or town a person unfamiliar with the area is really in.
Settlements in the county include or has included ; Boulder City, Henderson, Las Vegas (County seat), North Las Vegas, Mesquite, Blue Diamond, Bunkerville, Cal-Nev-Ari, Enterprise, Fort Mojave Indian Reservation (part), Goodsprings, Indian Springs, Laughlin, Moapa Town, Moapa Valley, Mount Charleston, Paradise, Sandy Valley, Searchlight, Spring Valley, Summerlin South, Sunrise Manor, Whitney (formerly East Las Vegas), Winchester, Arden, Cactus Springs, Cottonwood Cove, Glendale, Jean, Logandale, Mountain Springs, Nelson also called Nelson Landing
