Cyprus flights are important for peiople who wish to fly to the siland of Cyprus. Many wish to do this. Many go by many planes, some for holidays, and some for financial investment reasons, and some for other reasons. In 1999, Cyprus had six heliports and two international airports: Larnaca International Airport and Paphos International Airport. Nicosia International Airport has been closed since 1974. Public transport in Cyprus is limited to privately run bus services (except in Nicosia), taxis, and 'shared' taxi services (referred to locally as service taxis). Per capita private car ownership is the 5th highest in the world. In 2006 extensive plans were announced to improve and expand bus services and restructure public transport throughout Cyprus, with the financial backing of the European Union Development Bank. The main harbours of the island are Limassol harbour and Larnaca harbour, which service cargo, passenger, and cruise ships. Larnaca International Airport ( IATA: LCA, ICAO: LCLK ) is an international airport located near Larnaca, Cyprus. Larnaca International Airport is Cyprus' main international gateway and the larger of the country's two commercial airports, the other being Paphos International Airport on the island's southwestern coast. The airport has one passenger terminal comprising two connected airside buildings and a larger common arrivals hall situated behind The airport utilizes a single large apron for all aircraft. There are no jetways (boarding bridges), and so passengers are conveyed by bus between the terminal and the aircraft. This situation will improve when the replacement terminal comes online. The current infrastructure also feature a large engineering hangar, a cargo terminal, and separate facilities for fueling and provisioning light aircraft. The airport can be reached by car, taxi and public transport system. From Limassol, there is a shuttle bus system with 14 trips per day and ticket price is 7Euro. From Nicosia the shuttlecan have up to 30 trips per day and the ticket price is 5Euro. The shuttle services are non-stop. JetX ( Joensuu ) and Jet2.com and BA and Virgin are airlines and Thomson Airways and Thomas Cook. Paphos International Airport ( IATA: PFO, ICAO: LCPH ) is located 16 km (10 miles) from the city of Paphos, Cyprus. It is the country's second largest airport, (after Larnaca Airport). Paphos airport is commonly used by tourists on holiday in western Cyprus, providing access to popular resorts such as Coral Bay, Limassol and Paphos itself. In May 2006, Hermes Airports Limited took over the construction, development and operation of Larnaca and Paphos airports for a period of 25 years. A new revamped terminal for Paphos opened in November 2008. According to the airport operator, Paphos International served 1,744,011 passengers in 2007 . Passenger facilities include 20 check-in desks, 5 gates, 14 aircraft stands, a bank, restaurants, cafeterias, bars, a duty free shop and a gift shop. Other facilities include a tourist help desk, car rental, first aid, a baby/parent room and disabled access facilities. Refrigerated storage, health officials, X-Ray equipment are among some of the facilities provided for cargo. Furthermore, loading platforms and forklifts are also available. A new 4-lane road is being planned to link the airport and Paphos so passengers and staff can avoid using the B6 Main road and the E603 secondary road which are often heavily congested. Cyprus Airways Public Ltd is the national airline of Cyprus, based in Nicosia. It operates scheduled services to over 30 destinations in Europe, the Middle East and the Gulf. Its main operational base is Larnaca International Airport, due to the closure of Nicosia International Airport following the 1974 Turkish invasion. It also has a hub at Paphos International Airport
