Start this game again, if you want
In this game you are in the Russian Federation after the fall of Communism, (it is not the same Russian Federation as we have now, as that of the 1990s, there are many made up places replacing some places, but it is very much like there).
It is 1994, and your exiting prospect is a referendum.
Boris Yoltsin (the names have been chnaged so I can give the people concerned different actions) has led the land since 1991, and has started privatising, the economy.
In this game you are the leader of the Communist party (the one led by Zugunuv was abolished in 1993, after secret agents found evidence of members plotting a coup, on iffy evidence, you have replaced his party, with him jailed)
Yoltsin, has seen his proposals, beaten in parliament for new bills, to privatise, oil, decommunise farms, sell off state companies, lower pensions and lower welfare.
You are a new party, and are trying to stop this. You finished top in the mid 1994 emergency elections.
You are the head of the Soviet Communist Party. You were called amateurs by the last Communist party, or somethinmg like that, but have replaced them.(a later question asks if you want to re-establish the USSR)
Polls say this
Last Election,
Soviet Communist 22%
Yoltsin Democracy 15%
Business Matters _Pro-Yoltsin, led by former Primeminister) 13%
New Russia (Far right) 12% led by Nikolai Zatagar
Liberals 12% (Pro democracy, and Liberal reform, and mostly pro privatisation)
Russia's Future (Nationalist, wants no more change) 9%
All Russia's Peoples (Party for Russian ethnic Minorities, no view set view on privtisation) 7%
Forward Russia (Nationalist, pro Privatisation) 3%
United Democrats (Yolstin's oil minister's party) 2%, pro Privisation,
Russian's Communists, 2% (members of the Russian Communist party, who were not jailed, their split helped your 1% popularity party, then you became it's leader leader, before the Russian Communists were banned, and as the only party with Commkunist in the name in parliament won many votes, especially as you got most jailed supporters to support you, helping you win the election, as your party was most popular, now it has joined your party.)
Communist Russia 2% (Other members, their split helped your party become biggest)
Russians Abroad, 1% (A party representing Russians, abroad, wanting expansionism,)
The opinion poll
For the referndum is, 51% against the bill, 49% for, but tonnes of cash has been set up for the campaign for the bill, and it is predicted to win. in 1 month, it was called 1 month ago. when you had risen to a 58% against total, for such a poll, aftoer yoru election result.
If you win the referendum the fallout will probably cause you to win the next election, as Yoltsin, has set up a General and Presidential election for after the referendum, only 2 months after. So if you win, then you will probabaly become President of Russia.
So first question
Do you announce that your party will boycott the poll, you need to make a turnout of under 10% to win the victory that anulls, the poll, and gets you a win
Why have I chosen, this,
Well I have already done an election, and a leadership election, http://www.lonympics.co.uk/Coooool/fantsayleadership.htm
http://www.lonympics.co.uk/fantsayelection.htm
So now I want to do a referenda, as I like to think of myself as pro-European, and pro Scottish and Welsh devolution I did not want to repeat those referendad, and the only referendas, I can think of other than that are on boring subjects, subjects I am biased to , or are nationalistic or too much about Europe. So I want to choose a subject I can be more remote from, but still find interesting, and not have to research knew facts about (as I would if it was about India, or a South American land) Everybody finds Russia, interesting at tinmes, while many other lands are less intresting, and do not seem as important, as the geographically largest land on Earth. So I have chosen to do Russia. Which had the 2ns most intresting electiosn in the 1990s, when it had freer elections. Indian elections, are too complicated, and Japanese are too easy a wins, and South American countries are not as big, and were only intresting this decade as they were about radical changes, but even then are not as intresting as this idea of mine. That answers why i have chosen Russia, but why have I chosen this subject well it has to be recent, and it is the only issue it can have a referenda on, which could be fair, and interesting. All others, from abolishing democracy, to allowing independence to Chechnya, are too beset by me being biased in favour of democracy, and self determination for me, to do one where that issue, could be lost. Of course in the US I would support the Democrats, if I lived there, but I chose the 1960s, as surely if the Republicans were blamed for the Vietnam war then eth Democrats according to many would have lasted longer in power, so it could be good or bad, if a Democrat loses my 1960s election. probabaly good.
For this referenda, of course anybody who likes to think of themselves as left wing would normally oppose privatisation, but what do I know, maybe it was good for Russia, or maybe bad, Whatver happens, it is an intresting subject and a really important thing to get your teeth into, and imagine that you affected, without it being a issue like jopining the Eu where of course I would support any land joining, or allowing self determination, or abolishing a undoubtable good. So I can be interested and not too biased. The facst I do not know much about Russia, can be used in a good, way I can use the little thinsg I know, to create a game, with new ideas, just as how a blank sheet of paper, is better for writers at times than a list of ideas. But I can also use the ideas of what is in Russia too.
And last of all, why have I chosen you to be the Communist. Well I do not have the effort or energy or time, to do both sides, as it will be weaker than it could be. And added to that, most people think according to many poll,s that the end of Communism, was good, but that it went to far, so I am doing what most people would want. So here it is my election game above. I do not neccessarilly support the Russian Communist Party, as I am sure it is very illiberal in many of it's beliefs, but thenj again, it did help win World War Two, so it is ok, to be associarted to it, in a way, but if you hate Communism, then you can play at losing.
The game gets more complicated the closer you are to winning, but at most you are around a dozen moves from victory.
,Here are some more sites, there are books and articles on the subjects in many internet places, or internet book shops, bookstores, at the bottom, are lists of which were the worst regimes of the past few centuries.
