Flights to Belarus and Flights to Minsk are important for people traveling these lands. Belarus is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, bordered by Russia to the north and east, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the north. Its capital is Minsk; other major cities include Brest, Grodno, Gomel, Mogilev and Vitebsk. A third of the country is forested, and its strongest economic sectors are agriculture and manufacturing.
Until the 20th century, the Belarusians lacked the opportunity to create a distinctive national identity, since the lands of modern-day Belarus belonged to several countries, including the Duchy of Polatsk, Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the Russian Empire. After the short-lived Belarusian People's Republic (1918–19), Belarus became a constituent republic of the Soviet Union, the Byelorussian SSR. Minsk International Airport (IATA: MSQ, ICAO: UMMS) is the main international airport in Belarus, located 42 km (26 mi) to the east of the capital Minsk. The airport began operations in July 1982; the existing terminal was opened on March 28, 1989 and replaced the old Minsk-1 airport in the south of the city. The airport has one runway of length of 3640 m and width of 60 m. The airport hosts national Belarus airlines Belavia (passenger) and TransAVIAexport Airlines (cargo). Several foreign airlines provide service to Minsk airport. The airport, which is capable of accommodating 5 million passengers a year, served 830.481 passengers in 2007. Gomel Airport (IATA: GME, ICAO: UMGG) is an airport located 8 kilometers from Gomel (the second-largest city in Belarus. It was opened in 1968.

Aksana Miankova ( Belarusian born March 28, 1982 in Krichev ) is a Belarusian hammer thrower. She won the Olympic gold medal in 2008 with a throw of 76.34 metres, an Olympic record.
She also finished fifth at the 2005 Summer Universiade, and competed at the 2002 European Championships, the 2003 World Championships and the 2007 World Championships without reaching the final.
Her personal best throw is 77.32 metres, achieved in June 2008 in Minsk. This is the third longest throw by a woman.
