The state of Florida possesses a rich and diverse array of land and marine life and a mild subtropical climate. These assets have drawn tens of millions of people to settle in the once rural state over the last hundred years; Florida's population increases by about 1,000 residents each day. Land development and water use have transformed the state, primarily through drainage and infill of the wetlands that once covered most of the peninsula.
The climate of North and Central Florida is humid subtropical. South Florida has a tropical climate. There is a defined rainy season from June through September, which are the months most at risk of landfalling tropical cyclones.
The State of Florida is served by a wide variety of transportation options, including Interstate Highways, United States and Florida State Roads, Amtrak and commuter rail services, scheduled passenger service and other airports, and public transportation in many of the state's counties and regions.
