Hotels on the Freedom Trail are often required for tourists who want to visit the fmaous region.

The Freedom Trail is a red (mostly brick) path through downtown Boston, Massachusetts which leads to sixteen significant historic sites. It is a 2.5 mile (4 km) walk from the Boston Common to the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown and is popular with tourists. Part of the Freedom Trail has been included in the longer Boston Harbor Walk. The Freedom Trail is a unit of Boston National Historical Park.

The Freedom Trail was originally conceived in 1958 by local journalist William Schofield who was promoting the idea of linking important local landmarks with a pedestrian trail since 1951. Fifty years later tourists from all over the world visit Boston and walk in the footsteps of history.

The Histrionic Academy is a group of actors, educators, and historical interpreters who have come together to bring the history of Boston to life with the The Path To Independence walking tour. The Path To Independence starts at the Boston Common Visitors Center and finishes at Faneuil Hall Marketplace. 'Play Acting' was banned in Colonial England, due to the fact that many of the lawmakers in New England were Puritans. The strict Puritans viewed the theatre as sinful, and actors and actresses immoral. They passed laws aimed at keeping New England theatre-free. The origin of our company name 'Histrionic Academy' can be found in the methods used to circumvent these laws.

Boston is the capital and largest city of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and is one of the oldest cities in the United States. The largest city in New England, Boston is considered the economic and cultural center of the region, and is sometimes regarded as the unofficial "Capital of New England."

Much of the Back Bay and South End neighborhoods are built on reclaimed land, all of the earth from two of Boston's three original hills, the "trimount," was used as landfill material. Only Beacon Hill—the smallest of the three original hills, remains partially intact; only half of its height was cut down for landfill. The downtown area and immediate surroundings consist mostly of low-rise brick or stone buildings, with many older buildings in the Federal style. Several of these buildings mix in with modern high-rises, notably in the Financial District, Government Center, the South Boston waterfront, and Back Bay, which includes many prominent landmarks such as the Boston Public Library, Christian Science Center, Copley Square, Newbury Street, and New England's two tallest buildings—the John Hancock Tower and the Prudential Center. Near the John Hancock Tower is the old John Hancock Building with its prominent weather forecast beacon—the color of the illuminated light gives an indication of weather to come: "steady blue, clear view; flashing blue, clouds are due; steady red, rain ahead; flashing red, snow instead." (In the summer, flashing red indicates instead that a Red Sox game has been rained out.) Smaller commercial areas are interspersed among single-family homes and wooden/brick multi-family row houses. Currently, the South End Historic District remains the largest surviving contiguous Victorian-era neighborhood in the U.S.
