Sharapova's parents moved from Gomel, Belarus, to Siberia, Russia, in 1986, after the Chernobyl nuclear accident. She was born in Nyagan, Russia, the following year.
At age 7, Sharapova was brought to the United States by her father to attend the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Her mother followed a few years later.
She was an only child,
The family moved to the Black Sea resort of Sochi in 1989,
She started playing tennis quickly and by 4 saw her father and mother start nurturing this talent
Martina Navratilova saw her playing tennis in Moscow, and said she has talent, as of her ball hitting skills.
In 1995, her father nad herself travelled and decided to live in America, so as to find better ways of getting her tennis talents to advance.
After her father taught her for a long time in Florida, she eventually after 2 years got into the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
Her mother arrived in 1996.
In April 2000, at 13, she beat Myriam Casanova, and captured the Girls 16s Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships.
She turned pro in 2001,
She reached the Junior final of the Australian Open, and Wimbledon after reaching 14
She got to 532 in the WTA ranklings as of some matches that year in big events
Ending that year ranked 186
In 2003 she reached her first Grand Slam, the Australian Open, but after getting past Qualifying Rounds she lost in the 1st Round.
She reached into the top 100, that year, with doubles match wins, and singles wins,
She pushed Clijsters to the 3rd set in LA, and carried on winning many matches reaching rank 31 by the end of the year
She was put out of the 3rd round in the Australian Open at the start of the next year.
She played more and more big names, like Serena Williams, and in the French Open, reached the Quarter Final before being knocked out.
Then in Wimbledon, in 2004, she was losing to Davenport, but then started banging hard, and won the match in the Semi Final, then beat Serena Williams in the Final.
She then reached the Australian Open Semi Final in 2005,
But lost to Venus Williams, in the semis of Wimbldeon in 2005.
But as Davenport was injured Sharapova as of a long streak of wins on grass, and despite a injury rose to No1 that year.
She lost in the Semis in the US open too.
She was agains defeated in the Semi Finals of Wimbldeon in 2006.
But ranked 3rd for the US Open, in 2006, she won beating Henin-Hardenne in the final.
She is sometimes compared to a amazon as of her height, even a giantess,
She has won hottest female athelete of the year award a award given out by Maxim, some times. And has been in the FHM 100 sexiest women list.
She works in model work sometimes, and photo shoot work,
She has won 1 Wimbledon, and 1 US Open, to the date this was written in November 2006
She lost the Australian open to Serena Williams in early 2007.
