With a world-renowned waterfront district, cosmopolitan Cardiff ( Caerdydd ) is Wales' largest city and home of the largest media center in Britain outside of London, as of S4C, the Welsh Language Channel. Located in the southeast, Cardiff was established as capital of Wales in 1955 and is among Europe's 'youngest' capitals. Two-thirds of the Welsh population lives in the southeast, with another concentration in the northeast. Wales has three National Parks: Snowdonia, Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire Coast. It also has four Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. These areas include Anglesey, the Clwydian Range, the Gower peninsula and the Wye Valley. The Gower peninsula was the first area in the whole of the United Kingdom to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in 1956.
A Holiday cottage in Welsh mountains is for some a great break, from maybe Cardiff or a English city.
