Myrtle Beach is a coastal resort city in Horry County, South Carolina, United States. It is the de facto hub of both the Myrtle Beach metropolitan area and the Grand Strand, a complex of beach towns and barrier islands stretching from Little River to Georgetown, South Carolina.
Arising from a getaway for lumber workers from Conway, Myrtle Beach has rapidly developed into a major tourist destination in the Southeastern United States. It is situated mainly between the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway on the west and the Atlantic Ocean (Long Bay) on the East, although building west of the waterway is rapidly increasing.
The Myrtle Beach Pavilion was an amusement park in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It was on the corner of 9th Avenue and Ocean Boulevard, more or less the "heart" of Myrtle Beach, one block away from the beach itself, and surrounded by similar attractions, in a highly pedestrian dominated area.
Huntington Beach State Park is a small coastal preserve and state park near Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, with a large sandy beach and few beachgoers. The park, originally property of Archer M. Huntington, was donated after his death and takes its name from him. His winter home, Atalaya Castle, is also located on the park. Built during the Great Depression by only local workers, it was designed to withstand hurricanes.
The park features several species of birds of the southeast coast of the United Statesfor for bird watching. It hosts many types of ducks and waders in winter in both fresh and saltwater marshes. It has a jetty where oceanbirds like gannets, loons, scoters and occasionally alcids like razorbills and murres can be found. Local birders frequently refer to the park as "HBSP" in communications.
Broadway at the Beach has been a shopping center located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and is the largest festival entertainment complex in South Carolina.
