The east end of the city, on the California-Nevada border, is mainly geared towards tourism, with T-shirt shops, restaurants, hotels, and the Heavenly Ski Resort with the Nevada casinos just across the border. The city extends about 5 miles west-southwest along highway 50, also known as Lake Tahoe Blvd. The western end of town is mainly residential, and clusters around "The Y" - the Y-shaped intersection of highways 50 and 89.
Stateline is a census-designated place (CDP) on the east shore of Lake Tahoe in Douglas County, Nevada, United States. The population was 1,215 at the 2000 census. The population swells considerably during the busy winter and summer seasons, due to the high number of hotel rooms and rental accommodations available.
Stateline is home to 6 casinos, 4 of which qualify as resorts - MontBleu (formerly Caesar's), Harrah's Lake Tahoe, Horizon, and Harvey's Lake Tahoe. The Lakeside Inn and Bill's cater to locals and modest gamblers.
Many of the hotels in the neighboring town of South Lake Tahoe, California organize buses to take residents to the casinos in Stateline. Stateline and South Lake Tahoe are effectively one town, with the state line intersecting with US Highway 50 immediately after the Harrah's and Harvey's casinos.
Another
well-known feature of Stateline is Kingsbury Grade, aka Nevada state route 207,
which runs up and over a mountain pass, rising from Lake Tahoe and dropping down
to Gardnerville on the other side. Most of Stateline's residential and seasonal
accommodation, amenities and services are located on or near Kingsbury Grade.
The route can be difficult in the winter months and snowchains are essential during
this time. Larger vehicles are required to allow traffic to pass when 5 or more
vehicles are queueing behind them. Heavenly Mountain Resort is a ski resort located
on the California-Nevada border in South Lake Tahoe ( 38°56'7.40"N, 119°56'24.29"W).
It has 95 runs and 30 lifts that are spread between California and Nevada and
four base facilities. The resort was purchased by Vail Resorts, Inc. in 2002.
The resort has 4,800 acres (19 km²) permit, with approximately 33% developed
for skiing, making it the largest ski resort, by area, in California (Mammoth
Mountain Ski Area is larger in trail-marked, skiable terrain). It is also Tahoe's
highest ski resort, with a peak elevation of 10,067 ft (3,068 m) and a peak lift-service
elevation of 10,040 ft (3,060 m) and a vertical rise of 3,500 feet (1067 m). With
an average of 360 inches (9 m) of snow annually and one of America's largest snowmaking
systems, their season usually runs from mid November to late April or early May.
Lake Tahoe Airport (IATA: TVL, ICAO: KTVL, FAA LID: TVL) is a public airport located
three miles (3.8 km) southwest of South Lake Tahoe, serving El Dorado County,
California, USA. This general aviation airport covers 348 acres (141 ha) and has
one runway. Sunnyside-Tahoe City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Placer
County, California, located on the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe. It is part of
the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The population was 1,761 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.4 square miles (8.8 km²), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the census of
2000, there were 1,761 people, 789 households, and 362 families residing in the
CDP. The population density was 515.8 people per square mile (199.4/km²).
There were 2,102 housing units at an average density of 615.7/sq mi (238.0/km²).
The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.34% White, 0.28% African American, 0.40% Native
American, 1.31% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 0.45% from other races, and 2.10%
from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.63% of the population.
There were 789 households out of which 20.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.9% were married couples living together, 4.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 54.1% were non-families. 30.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.75.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 15.9% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 45.0% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 6.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 128.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 132.5 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $56,875, and the median income for a family was $79,412. Males had a median income of $41,136 versus $25,833 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $33,534. About 1.1% of families and 5.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under the age of eighteen or sixty-five or over.
