Kasauli is a small cantonment town in Solan district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The town is the home of the Kasauli Brewery, which is the highest brewery and distillery in the world. The cantonment was established in 1842 by the British colonial rulers as a hill station. Located 77 km from Shimla, 65 km from Chandigarh and 50 km from Panchkula, it still retains the old world charms and is a throwback to the past.
Legend has it that Kasauli came into being when Lord Hanuman, on his way to getting the Sanjeevani herb, stepped here for jumping on to the Sanjeevani hill. At Kasauli there is a Hanuman Mandir atop the 300 m high hillock, called Monkey Point (locals call it Manki Point), where Lord Hanuman is supposed to have rested his feet. This temple lies within the confines of an air force radar station and base and is subject to security restrictions (no cameras or bags allowed). On a clear day, one can get views of nearby cities like Chandigarh. One can reach this point by road or on foot. On foot, it takes nearly two hours from Kasauli town but the scenery and harmony you enjoy makes the walk worth the effort.
Located within the Indian Army premisis, Kasauli Club is one of the most prestigious social clubs in India. Established. in 1880, the club has always been the social center of the town.

The state of Himachal Pradesh is spread over an area 55,673 km² and is bordered by Jammu and Kashmir on north, Punjab on the south-west, Haryana on south, Uttarakhand on the south east and by Tibet on the east. Himachal is a mountainous region, rich in its natural resources.
Elevation ranges from 450 meters to 6500 meters above sea level. It covers its region from the Shivalik range of mountains (barely mountainous region). There is an increase notified in the elevation from west to east and from south to north.

(Shivaliks)
2. The lesser Himalayas (central zone)
3. The Great Himalayan
(northern zone)
The Shivalik range consists of lower hills (elevation — 600 m above sea level). The hills of the region are composed of highly unconsolidated deposits which results to a high rate of erosion and deforestation.
The lesser Himalayas are spoted by a gradual elevation towards the Dhauladhar and the Pir Panjal ranges. The rise is more rapid in the Shimla hills, to the south of which is the high peak of church — Chandni (3647 m). North of river Sutlej, the rise is steady.
