The city is located in an arid basin surrounded by dry mountains. City elevation is around 620 m above sea level. The Spring Mountains lie to the west. As befits a desert, much of the landscape is rocky and dusty.

The narrow channel, which was once known as Boulder Canyon and the original planned site for the dam is now known as The Narrows, connects Boulder Basin to Virgin Basin to the east. The Virgin River and Muddy River empty into Overton Arm, which is connected to the northern part of the Virgin Basin. The next basin to the east is Temple Basin, and following that is Gregg Basin. Las Vegas Bay is a bay at the western edge of Lake Mead in the USA state of Nevada. The bay is located to the northeast of the city of Henderson, Nevada, near the junction of Lake Mead Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard. A public campground and boat access are available in Las Vegas Bay The bay is the natural discharge point for the Las Vegas Wash.
Mesquite is a city in Clark County, Nevada, USA, adjacent to the Arizona state line and 124 km northeast of Las Vegas. Mesquite’s first name was Mesquite Flat, settled by early Mormon pioneers. The community was finally established on the third attempt after having been flooded out from the waters of the Virgin River. The name was later shortened to Mesquite and the city was incorporated in May 1984. Mesquite, like nearby Bunkerville, had its origins in farming. The Peppermill casino, which opened in the 1970s, drove Mesquite’s diversified economy. In the mid 1990s, other casino resorts opened. Mesquite was marketed as a getaway from Las Vegas and a more laid-back gambling option for out of state visitors.
North Las Vegas is a city in Clark County, Nevada, USA, located in the Las Vegas metropolitan area. The city was incorporated on May 16, 1946, and is probably best known for being near (but not the home of) Nellis Air Force Base. Located in the desert southwest, in the Mojave Desert, North Las Vegas is north of Las Vegas and north of the unincorporated town of Sunrise Manor.
Henderson is a city in Clark County, Nevada, USA adjacent to the Las Vegas metropolitan area; it is located mainly to the southeast. The mountains that surround Henderson mostly have gentle slopes. The Mccullough Range is the range closest to the city and most of this range is covered by black rocks from a volcanic explosion millions of years ago. These mountains reach an average height of about 3,800 feet. The landscape consists of desert with barely any water. The only water that is in the city is from washes like Duck Creek.
Boulder City is a city in Clark County, Nevada, USA. It is approximately 20 miles from the City of Las Vegas. Boulder City was originally built in 1932 by the Bureau of Reclamation as housing for workers who were building Hoover Dam (the original name of the dam was Boulder Dam). It was designed by landscape architect Saco Rienk DeBoer. Alcohol sales, membership in unions and all forms of gambling were prohibited in the city. The Bureau did not relinquish control of the city until 1958. Boulder City was officially incorporated on January 4, 1960, and the city council selected pharmacist Robert N. Broadbent as the first mayor.
