Lindsay Davenport began playing tennis at 7. She was tall & strong, for her age, & was able to play well early on. Her father was a member of the US olympic volleyball team, in 1968.

In 1991, this right handed player was allowed wild cards, when only 15 to play in the Received wild cards into San Diego qualifying & Schenectady & US Open main draws.
She ended that season ranked 339 in the world.

In 1992, she won the singles & doubles competition of the US Open & the doubles at the Australian Open as a junior in 1992. of the Junior events.

And was a Finalist in 1992 at the Australian Open singles & Roland Garros doubles with Chanda Rubin Junior events.


Lindsay reached the second round at the 1992 US Open. As the winner of the US Open recieves a wildcard to this event.
She ended that season ranked 159.

Lindsay reached the quarterfinals at the 1993 Indian Wells.


Just one week after she had turned pro Lindsay defeats the world no. 5

Gabriela Sabatini on her way to the quarter finals at Delray Beach.


Lindsay won her 1st Tour title at the European Open when 16 years 11 months old.


She reached the 4th round at the 1993 US Open & lost in three sets to one of the world's top 10 players, Gabriella Sabatini.


Ended the year ranked at number 20

1994 Lindsay won two singles titles with victories in Brisbane & Lucerne.


Lindsay reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinals at the Australian Open (lost to Graf) & Wimbledon (lost to Martinez)


She qualified for the season-ending championships & lost to Sabatini.


Ended 1994 ranked at number 6.


1995 Seeded at no 1 Lindsay claimed the singes title in Strasbourg with win over no. 2 seed Kamiko Date. Lindsay reached the quarterfinal at the Australian Open for second consecutive year. Finishing that year ranked number 12.


1996


In 1996 Lindsay won the Olympic gold medal after beating Aranxta Sanchez-Vicario. She was the ninth seeded player & upset four higher ranked players to take the gold medal. Which she always says should be considered another Grand Slam. She won two additional titles in Strasbourg defeating Paulus & in LosAngeles defeating Huber. She ends the year ranked at number 6.


1997 Won six titles at Oklahoma City, Indian Wells, Amelia Island, Atlanta, Zurich & Chicago.


Lindsay reached her first career Grand Slam semi-final at the US Open, where she lost to eventual champion Martina Hingis


Lindsay's 1st Grand Slam singles title at the 1998 US Open, defeated top seed & defending champion Martina Hingis (6-3 7-5).


Became the No. 1 ranked player on the planet, on the 12th of October 1998.

She was a finalist at the season-ending championships with a win over Graf in the semi-final before losing to Martina Hingis in four sets in the best-of-five-sets final

Lindsay won six titles, US Open, Tokyo Pan Pacific, Stanford, San Diego, Los Angeles & Zurich.


She ended the year ranked at number 1.


She won her 2nd Grand Slam singles at the 1999 Wimbledon, beating defending champion Novotna in the quarterfinals & Steffi Graf in the final. She became the tallest player to enter Women's Wimbledon, and the tallest player to win. She heralded a new era of 6 footers winning titles in the tennis world in the 2000s, with Mria Sharapova, and Venus Williams. In what was becoming a stronger game. At the US Open, saved two match points to defeat Mary Pierce & advance to the semi-final before falling in three sets to eventual champion S. Williams


Lindsay won the season-ending championships defeating the no. 1 Martina Hingis in the final


Withdrew from Miami before her QF match with a sprained left wrist suffered during practice several days earlier; injury also caused her to withdraw from Hilton Head, the first round of Fed Cup, Filderstadt & Zurich


She reached the final at Philadelphia for a third straight year, winning it for the first time by defeating no. 1 Martina Hingis in the final.


Undefeated in Fed Cup play in 1999 & 2000, leading the United States to the title both years.
She ended the seasonranked at number 2


On April 17, 2000, became the fourth player since computer rankings began in 1977 to simultaneously hold the world No. 1 ranking in both singles & doubles, joining Martina Navratilova, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario & Martina Hingis.


By reaching the semi-finals at the Miami tournament in 2000 Lindsay regained the world No. 1 ranking, earning her 400th career match win.
At 2000 Scottsdale, became the seventh woman tennis player ever to cross the $10 million mark in career prize money.


3rd career Grand Slam singles title at 2000 Australian Open & becoming the first America-born woman to win there since Chris Evert in 1984.


At Scottsdale, became the 7th woman tennis player ever to cross the $10 million mark in career prize money


She Ended the season ranked at number 2.


2001 She was a finalist at her first tournament of 2001 in Sydney, falling to no.1 Martina Hingis 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 Lindsay reached the semi-final at the 2001 Australian Open. Defeated the world's number 1, Hingis to capturea title at the Tokyo Pan Pacific. Lindsay won her next tournament at Scottsdale, avenging her Australian Open loss to Capriati in the semis.

She reaached the semi-final at Indian Wells before losing to eventual champion S. Williams.


After a two-and-a-half-month absence Lindsay returned from her knee injury to win Eastbourne & reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon.
Finalist at Stanford, falling to no. 6 Kim Clijsters


She reached the semi-final at San Diego defeated by no.3 Venus Williams.

Lindsay became a winner at Los Angeles for a third time, defeating No. 10 Seles for the ninth straight time to move up to the No. 2 world ranking, her highest in four months


She was the finalist at New Haven, lost to Venus Williams.


She reached the quarterfinals at the US Open before losing to Serena Williams.


She won her fifth title of the year at Filderstadt, her career first in Germany.

Lindsay defeated Henin in the final; she also won the doubles at Filderstadt, her first doubles title of the year.


She repeated the singles-doubles sweep the following week in Zurich to win for the third time there & improve her match record at the tournament to 15-1.


Lindsay won a third consecutive title in Linz, again beating Jelena Dokic in final.


At the season-ending championships she again damaged her right knee in the last 2 points of semi-final, so withdrew from the competition final versus Serena Williams. She Ended the year ranked at number 1

 

In 2002 she had to withdraw from Wimbledon as of an injury so she had to wear bandages round her knees at times. She also finished a semi finalist in the US Open.

2003 and 2004, were years still seeing some dominance by the Williams sisters, but Davenport carried on winning some competitions, for instance 2003 saw Venus beat her in the Wimbledon Semi Finals.

But Lindsay stayed polite, and courteuos, and towering over female interviewers.

2005 Saw Davenport come back, and ditch talk of retirement, but still she managed to just get into the Finals. The loss to Sharapova the year before in the Semis in Wimbledon saw her think about quitting. but 2005 saw her the Runner Up in Wimbldeon and the US Open.

2006 saw her start to play less tennis matches, as of back problems,
