Things to do in the Isle of Man
There are mabye many things to do in the Isle of Man. By Tim Onion
The Isle of Man is an island in the Middle of the Irish Sea. It is the largest island
The island runs itself as a crown dependancy. With it's own parliament older than Britain's.
The area had Gaelic speaking populations in the early Middle Ages, then the Vikings took over for a while, then Scotland bought it, then England took it in the 13th Century
.This small isle has it's own 4
horned sheep, on it's lump of grass, & N-English weather,
More populous
than the Highland isles, of Scotland,
The isle has stumpy domestic cats, that
look like normal cats, with no tails,
And also much gorse, & a tartan of
pale blue, & colours,
The Manx were given the the vote in 1880, as before the pralieamsnt was very much dominated by the rich, as of the franchise.
In the early 17th Century the island was ruled by a local noble, and bishops, as main authorities, not really the parliament, which was only ever all that powerful under the Vikings. In the 1660s, a Man who supported Cromwell partly for the security of the island, was executed by the royalist government, and serfdom was re-established to some degree. Something that had been to some extent around before 1650 under the royal regime, before Cromwell. This decreased in the early 18th Century, and in the later part of that century a petition to the not all powerful parliament of the Isle of Man, helped stop serf style ways totally. .
Today the Isle of Man is famous as a tax haven, which many in Britain think is unfair. But it helps the Manx economy.
There are many things to do in the Isle of Man, for instance, cycling, motor bike riding, running, walking, bird watching, site seeing, boating, seeing castles, reading up on the old Gaelic style tongue , watching tv, listening to the radio, going by boat to Liverpool, going to calf Isle the isle of Calf, singing, shopping, and jumping.
The Isle is a fairly equal
distance, from Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and England. And for that matter the
Ulster part of Ireland, so the Manx area is a mx of these places, and more too.
It is famous for TT Racing, keeping corporal punishment longer than the rest of
the British Isles, and it's capital is Douglas, which has a large amount of the
people. Including many residents from Britain.
