The Monte Carlo Resort & Casino is a hotel & casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, USA. It is currently owned by MGM Mirage. The hotel offers 3,002 guest rooms, including 259 luxury suites. The hotel currently has an AAA rating of four diamonds. The hotel, modeled after the opulent Place du Casino in Monte Carlo, features chandelier domes, marble floors, neoclassical arches, & promenades. Guest room features include Italian marble, cherry furniture, cable/pay TV, 24-hour room service, & data ports.

One of the resort's highlights is Lance Burton, who performs magic at the Lance Burton Theater. The resort has a grand lobby, shopping mall, convention facilities, a spa, fitness center, tennis courts, a large pool area which includes a wave pool & a lazy river tubing ride & a wedding chapel. Tram service shuttles visitors between the Monte Carlo & Bellagio every 10 minutes. As of August 2006 the tram is not running due to construction between the two hotels.

History

Night view of the hotelGround was broken for the hotel in March of 1995. It was originally known as the " Grand Victoria", but after it was criticized by MGM Grand officials, it was shortened to "Victoria" then changed to "Monte Carlo".

The Monte Carlo was built as a joint venture between Mirage Resorts & Circus Circus Enterprises. Its aim was to attract "middle-income tourists eager to sample European elegance at budget prices". The resort sits on 44 acres & cost $344,000,000 to build.

The Monte Carlo opened to the public on June 21, 1996 at 12:01 am. There was an invitation-only VIP pre-opening celebration the prior day starting at 7:00pm. The party included a 12 minute firework show at 11pm.

Monte Carlo Brew Pub. Formerly the only micro-brewery on the Las Vegas Strip, the Pub stopped brewing its own beer in December 2006. Construction of the adjacent Project CityCenter took over the building used for brewing.
"Diablo's Cantina", a Mexican-themed bar & restaurant, opened on September 21, 2007.
The 1,200 seat Lance Burton Theatre with a New York style lobby.
A 21,000-square-foot (2,000 m²) pool area including waterfalls, a wave pool with constantly changing wave patterns & a "Lazy River" feature.

In popular culture
In the 2004 film Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, the Average Joes stay at the Monte Carlo during the Dodgeball championships in Las Vegas.
