Remote Access Services (RAS)

refers to any combination of hardware and software in enabling remote access to tools or info that reside on a network of IT devices.

Microsoft invented the phrase when referring to a NT remote access tools, RAS was by Windows NT which allows most services which would be available on a network accessed over a modem link.
