The Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange

(ECSE)

Serious Information

Trivia

The Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange is a regional securities market, established by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and licensed under the Securities Act, uniform regional legislation governing securities market activities. The ECSE is designed to facilitate the buying and selling of financial products, including corporate stocks and bonds and government securities, for the eight ECCB member territories of Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It is the first regional securities market in the Western Hemisphere.

The ECSE provides investors a new way to make money on their investments and participate in the expansion of local enterprises at the same time. It offers an opportunity for investing in and profiting from the growth and development of the economy of the Eastern Caribbean.

The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank is the key promoter behind the development of the Eastern Caribbean Securities Market (ECSM), which is the first regional securities market licensed under the Eastern Caribbean Securities Act 2001.

Once an issuer has used the primary market the secondary market becomes the next option to allow these investors to trade their securities freely and to provide liquidity. With the ECSM, investors have yet another alternative source to invest their savings in order to secure their future. The ECSM also allows for the transfer of private sector savings to productive investment. This will essentially increase productive activity in the real sector, facilitate private sector development and create avenues for employment.

Shares of all companies listed on the ECSE will be held in dematerialized form. This means that investors will no longer need to hold certificates to confirm proof of ownership. Once you buy shares now, you will not be given a certificate but a confirmation of the proof of ownership. Your shares will be held in electronic form at the Eastern Caribbean Central Securities Registry Ltd. (ECCSR), a subsidiary of the ECSE.

ECSM is designed to provide an alternative mechanism for institutions to raise capital within the regional financial system. The ECSM facilitates primary and secondary market trading. The primary market gives issuers an opportunity to raise money through new issues of securities

The ECSE EC-Share Index , established as at 31 st December 2004, was developed to track the performance of all domestic equities listed on the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange. That is, shares of listed companies based in member territories of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU).
