Skilled Migrant Category fees
When you apply for residence under the Skilled Migrant Category, there are three key payments that you'll need to make:

Application for Residence
If you are invited to apply for residence under the Skilled Migrant Category, you will need to pay a fee to lodge your application.

Migrant Levy

Each person included in the application, up to a maximum of four people, has to pay the Migrant Levy. This means that the most you will have to pay is NZ$1,200.

It is a good idea to contact the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) before you arrive, to ensure that your qualifications are on a par with ours. In some instances you may need to consider extra study or training in order to get the job you want.

In 2005 The New Zealand government started calling on "Kiwis" in a campaign to try to tempt them back home from Britain. Low unemployment and a skilled worker shortage means ministers want expat workers living abroad to return. An estimated 500,000 New Zealanders, out of a population of 4 million, live abroad - about 54,000 in the UK. Posters on the London Underground and advertising campaigns on websites popular among expats will be some of the tactics used in the return drive. It was launched by New Zealand's Immigration Minister Cunliffe on Monday.

Prior to applying for residence you may wish to come to New Zealand temporarily to find out more about life here. This may be as a tourist, as a student undertaking a course of study or as a worker on a temporary working visa.

Employer desire

A new website http://newzealandnow.info/ has job opportunities in the country and information on moving home. Mr Cunliffe said: "New Zealanders have always travelled and we know that three-quarters of our overseas population are either intending to come home at some time or will consider the option of coming home.
