The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is an organization of insurance regulators from the 50 U.S.A states, the District of Columbia and the four U.S.A territories. The NAIC was founded in 1871 by state insurance regulators to coordinate regulation of multistate insurance carriers. The organization helps regulators to co-ordinate insurance industry financial accounting standards, legislation, data collection and analysis, and technological support. The association's executive headquarters are in Kansas City, Missouri, with additional offices in New York City and Washington, D.C.
The NAIC acts as a forum for the creation of model laws and regulations
The
mission of the NAIC is to assist state insurance regulators, individually and
collectively, in serving the public interest and achieving fundamental insurance
regulatory goals in a responsive, efficient and cost effective manner, consistent
with the wishes of its members: It has to Protect the public interest; Promote
competitive markets; Facilitate fair and equitable treatment of insurance consumers;
Promote the reliability, solvency and financial solidity of insurance institutions;
and Support and improve state regulation of insurance.
