Although the TARDIS once had the ability to disguise itself according to environment, after landing in 63 London its exterior form became stuck in a form of a British police box; due to a malfunctioning chameleon circuit, it has remained as such ever since. Though over the course of the series the Doctor occasionally attempted to fix the circuit, he eventually gave up the effort out of fondness for the police box shape.
