Jose's parents were Jose Manuel Mourinho Felix, a former goalkeeper for Portugal Belenses and Vitoria De Setubal. Jose Mourinho was a wealthy man due to the wealth his family inherited from Mario Ledo his Great uncle.
Mario Ledo was a wealthy industrialist, and owner of Vitoria de Setubal, who took his niece and nephew, Maria Julia and Mario Carrajola
Ledo was a supporter of the right wing dictatorship that ran Portugal until the mid-seventies. In 1974 the industrial empire was broken up by the new government, but the family was still left with enormous private wealth.
Jose Mourinho had a financially comfortable upbringing.
He tried to be a professional football player but although skilful did not have the power to be a pro football player. Yet showed an avid interest in football form an early age getting a football pitch built in his garden at the age of four.
This gave Mourinho an advantage as he was able to start a career as a manager early. He started to develop his coaching and managerial skills from his early twenties rather than late thirties.
At the age of 15 he would wrote a report on the opposition of a team which his families football side Vitoria were playing, and developed an interest in compiling information on other teams to help the club.
In 1988 Mourinho worked as teacher helping mentally disabled kids. Mourinho still helps with such charities, he was considered an affectionate teacher. At the same time he worked at another school for non disabled children. In 1988 he became less inexperienced as a coach, after he was appointed youth coach at Vitoria De Setubal. He trained the side for 3 years. The side's displays were OK with a district championship, but were thrashed by the Southern giants Sporting Lisbon and Benfica.
Mourinho then moved to FC Estrela Da Amadora as a specialist in Physical training. Yet Mourinho did not last long as the club were relegated and the coach was removed with the staff (including Mourinho).
Mourinho then took over as youth coach of Setubal again, until being appointed as the interpreter of former England boss Bobby Robson. The former England boss had taken over as manager of Sporting Lisbon, in 1992. The man became Mourinho's mentor. At first Mourinho was just an interpreter but learnt a lot and used this for a while. The two then moved to Porto FC and won two championships and two super cups. This lead to the setting of the foundations of FC Porto becoming the dominant club in Portugal. for a decade.
In 1996 they moved on to Barcelona, with Mourinho as deputy. In his first year Mourinho was an important part of the team, but then Van Gaal became boss of Barcelona. Mourinho remained at Barcelona but was not such a key member of the coaching staff.
He was offered the chance to go to be deputy boss at Newcastle United under his mentor.
Yet in 2000 he was desperate prove himself as a boss.
Mourinho got his debut managerial job as boss of Portugese giants Benfica.
Mourinho took over in 2000 Yet did not last long a new president took over and wanted his appointment in the job. Mourinho then took over as boss of Uniao De Leira a minor Portugese side. Mourinho only spent a short but successful time at the club before moving soon to FC Porto.
Mourinho moved to Porto in 2002. The team was going through a poor spell struglling to challenge for trophies.
Mourinho finished third in this first year, which qualified the club for the UEFA cup. Mourinho planned for the next year meticulously, and built up a siege mentality claiming the Portuguese Soccer establishment favoured Benfica. The next year pushed Mourinho into the international limelight, He won the Portugese championship, and perhaps most importantly the UEFA cup, and a super cup. The UEFA cup was won with famous victories over Panathinaikos of Greece in the quarter final, Lazio in the semi final (including a 4-1 win) and Glasgow Celtic in the final. The UEFA cup final was won in Sevilla 3-2 after extra time with a great display by Deco.
The next year Mourinho dominated the league again but narrowly lost on the super cup. Despite being reigning UEFA cup champions no one seriously considered Porto as potential European cup winners. The team scraped through the group stages, then won a narrow 3-3 aggregate win over Manchester United. Manchester United's famous European cup winning Scottish manager Fergie was upset by this result and refused to shakes hands with Mourinho after the result. Although the two have sine become friendly.
Porto reached the final by defeating Deportivo La Corunha of Spain.
The club reached the final to play Monaco where they won with an emphatic 3-0 win in Germany
Mourinho was then poached by Chelsea FC with the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, giving up huge amounts of his fortune to fund the development of the biggest club side on the planet.
Mourinho won the league and league cup in his first year in charge then regained the league again. Mourinho took up extra income from advertising items in the UK. Mourinho became a big star. Jose then won a second English league in 2006.
