Gates of Alexander
The Gates of Alexander were a mythical barrier built by Alexander the Great in the Caucasus to keep the barbarians of the north from invading the south. The gates were a popular subject in medieval travel literature.
Itsukushima Shrine A red gate that stands in the water as a shrine
The dramatic gate, torii, of Itsukushima Shrine is one of Japan's most popular tourist attractions, and the view of the gate in front of the island's Mount Misen is classified as one of the Three Views of Japan (along with the sand bar Amanohashidate, and Matsushima Bay). The gate has existed since 1168, though the current gate dates to 1875. The gate, built of camphor wood, is 16 metres high, and has a four-legged style to provide stability. The gate only appears to be floating at high tide.

Sungnyemun
located in the Korean city of Seoul and is an area with a mix of old and new. The historic city gate, used to protect the city from Korean tigers, which have long been gone from the area. Sungnyemun is also called Namdaemun, literally "the southern gate," because it was the southern gate of the original walls surrounding Seoul during the Joseon Dynasty. Currently, Sungnyemun serves a gateway to Namdaemun market, a traditional twenty-four hour market that has been operating for centuries. The area is home to several shopping malls.

number of fortified gates protecting both the inner and outer city. Apart from
the purpose of defense, they were used for differentiation of social and economic
classes. Often the gates were heavily decorated as artistic pieces.
Downing
Street gates
In 1989 large, black, steel gates were erected at the entrance
for Downing Street to protect the Prime Minister from terrorist attack, particularly
from the Provisional IRA. Before then it was possible for members of the public
to walk through Downing Street, as a shortcut to St. James's Park. In 2003, work
to strengthen the foundations of the gates was carried out.
The Brandenburg
Gate is a triumphal arch, the symbol of Berlin, Germany, located on the Pariser
Platz, it is the only remaining one of the series of gates through which one entered
Berlin. One block to its north lies the Reichstag. It constitutes the monumental
termination of Unter den Linden, the renowned boulevard of linden trees which
led directly to the royal residence
Sather Gate
Sather Gate is a prominent landmark separating Sproul Plaza and the bridge over Strawberry Creek leading to the heart of the University of California, Berkeley campus. The gate was donated by Jane K. Sather, a benefactor of the university, onmemory of her husband Peder Sather.

The Jaffa Gate is a stone portal in the historic walls of Jerusalem's Old City; it is one of eight gates in Jerusalem's Old City walls.
The Jaffa gate opens to a road, Jaffa Street that leads
Israel's largest city, Tel Aviv, on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. In ancient
times, that road lead to the port city of Jaffa, which is now just on the southern
outskirt of Tel Aviv.
Amsterdamse Poort is an old city gate of Haarlem, the Netherlands.
It was created in 1355 and is the only remaining city gate from the Haarlem defences.
In 1865 the city government wanted
to destroy the gate. A speedy procedure to remove the gate was requested, as the
gate was rundown and was blocking the construction of a new bridge on the location
just in front of the gate. However, there was not enough money at the moment to
construct a new bridge, so the city council agreed to provide funds for a short-term
renovation to make sure it would stay up for two or three more years.

Hadrianus Gate that is also called "The Three Gates". This triumphal arch was built in the name of the Roman emperor Hadrianus, who visited Antalya in 130 A.C., it has three arched gates. According to the legend, those were the gates under which Belkis, the Queen of Saba, passed her ships full of diamonds, on her way to visit Hz. Süleyman King Solomon in Antalya. Sultan Belkis is said to have passed under those gates and to have enjoyed many a happy day in the palace in Aspendos.
Suzakumon
Gate
The Suzakumon Gate was the main gate of the imperial palace in the
Japanese ancient capital of Fujiwarakyo, Nara, and later Kyoto. It is said to
be the site where foreign dignitaries were received by the Emperor. All of them
were destroyed centuries ago along with the old imperial residences.
In 1993, it was decided that the gate of Nara should be reconstructed. It proved extremely difficult to work out what Suzakumon had looked like, as there were no surviving structural remnants. A model was developed, based on comparable architecture elsewhere, and the new gate was constructed from a mixture of traditional building materials. The reconstructed gate was opened in 1998.
Kashmiri Gate
Built
by Military Engineer Robert Smith in 1835, the gate is named this because it used
to start a pathway that led to Kashmir. It is located in Delhi. The gate first
gained attention during the Mutiny of 1857, considered to be the first war of
Indian Independence. Indian freedom fighteres fired vollys of cannon balls from
this gate to the British and used the area as an assembling place for strategies
of war. Here, the martyrs of independence decided to sacrifice their lives.
Notting
Hill Gate
Notting Hill Gate is one of the main thoroughfares of Notting Hill
in London. At its centre is Notting Hill Gate tube station.
At Ossington Street / Kensington Palace Gardens, the Bayswater Road turns into Notting Hill Gate, and it continues until it turns into Holland Park Avenue just before Ladbroke Grove.

Gteway
of India. The Gateway of India is a monument located in Mumbai, India. Located
on the waterfront in South Mumbai, the Gateway is a basalt arch 26 metres high.
The Gateway is traditionally the first thing visitors arriving by boat would see
of Bombay. Behind the Gateway steps lead down to the waterfront, where boat trips
can be had to locations such as Elephanta Island.
