Actress
Kate Bosworthwas born Catherine Ann Bosworth on January the 2nd, 1983 is an American actress. After appearing in 1998's The Horse Whisperer, Bosworth became well known with a leading role in 2002's Blue Crush, and has since appeared in several notable films, including Superman Returns, where she played Lois Lane.
Bosworth grew up mainly on the East Coast of the USA, spending the rest of her youth in Darien, Connecticut and Cohasset, Massachusetts. She has noted because of her family's frequent relocations, she always felt like the "new girl in school", and describes herself as "shy" during her high school years, specifying she has "this pain in my heart from what it was like to walk in with your lunch tray and not have anywhere to sit".
Between 2002 and 2005, Bosworth appeared in widely released films. She played actress Sandra Dee in Beyond the Sea and played a lead role in Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, opposite Josh Duhamel. Bosworth portrayed Chali, a Hare Krishna, in a film adaption of Myla Goldberg's acclaimed novel Bee Season, about a dysfunctional Jewish family. In 2005, Bosworth was cast as the reporter Lois Lane in the new Superman movie, Superman Returns. Her Beyond the Sea co-star, Kevin Spacey, who appears in Superman Returns, suggested Bosworth for the role to director Bryan Singer. Bosworth hesitated to take the role, citing the iconic nature of the character, and the potentially negative fan reaction to her performance. The film was released on June 28, 2006, and Bosworth has already signed on for a potential sequel.
Bosworth describes herself as insecure, and has detailed that she is "learning"
and maturing as an actress. She will next appear in the Great Depression themed
independent film drama, Seasons of Dust, which will also star Bosworth's current
boyfriend, Orlando Bloom. The film will be directed by Tim Blake Nelson, and
will begin filming in mid-July 2006 in New Mexico and Oklahoma.
Bosworth was admitted to Princeton University in 2000, but continues to defer her attendance. She is also a member of the Appalachia Service Project.
While attending Cohasset high school , Bosworth learned to speak Spanish and was a member of the National Honor Society; she also played varsity soccer and lacrosse.
