It was incorporated in 1882, though the name dates back to the establishment of a post office in 1868. It is also the home of the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Nye Beach, Yaquina Head Lighthouse, and Rogue Ales. Newport is located at 44°38'16" North, 124°3'17" West (44.6377, -124.0548). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.4 square miles (27 km²), of which, 8.9 square miles (23 km²) of it is land and 4 km² (1.6 sq mi or 14.94%) of it is water.
