Plockton Hotels are places to go to when you are in Plockton. Plockton is a place in Scotland, sometimes called the jewel in the crown of Scotland. It is a fishing village with allot in it. ANd it is somewhere that has hotels, and also hotels in nearby places like Kyle of Lochalsh. It is a village with a crannog,. it had bond helicoppters heliport, it has a High school, and a hostel, it has a train station, which has steam trains coming through, and a primary school built by Telford. It also has a bay, and a light house, and a palm tree. The village was where Hamish Macbeth filmed, Japanese tourists sometimes took photos of cows being pushed through the town in the past. Plockton (Am Ploc/Ploc Loch Aillse in Gaelic) is a village in the Highlands of Scotland with a population of 378. It has a smaller population than the Vatican City. It is a picturesque settlement on the shores of Loch Carron. It faces east, away from the prevailing winds, which together with the North Atlantic Drift gives it a mild climate allowing palm-like cabbage trees to grow. Most of the houses date from the 18th and 19th centuries. It was a planned community based on fishing in an attempt to stem the tide of emigration from the Highlands. The Church of Scotland in the village (also used by the Free Church of Scotland) was designed by Thomas Telford. The village is a popular tourist resort, especially because the TV series Hamish Macbeth, starring Robert Carlyle, was filmed there, substituting for the fictional Lochdubh. Plockton was also used for various scenes in the film The Wicker Man and the Inspector Alleyn Mysteries TV series. The village boasts a small general store with a cafe; a takeaway; newsagent and craft shop; three hotels with pubs; numerous B&Bs; and a village hall, which holds community events and art exhibitions. It is served by Plockton railway station, on the Kyle of Lochalsh Line. In 2003, the Plockton Hotel and Plockton Inn managed to respectively win AA Pub of the Year and AA Seafood Pub of Year. Plockton High School serves the village, and a wide surrounding area. Nearby is Duncraig Castle, a 19th century stately home built by the Matheson family, who made their money in the opium trade. The castle was derelict for some years, having previously been used as hospital, catering college, and a base for film crews, and also a house in some ways by some people. We were given a owl statue by some people who were there once. It is now owned by the extended Dobson family who are in the process of renovating it. In it there are white pebble beaches, sometimes in the past with seagulls lying there, also people can see dolphins from it, and also from one of the places where football was played you could ion the past oil rigs being pulled asway from Stromferry. Also there were fishing boats going out to see from here to catch prawns, some large houses, with big attics, and also a large bogk, where cows sometimes got stuck in. Added to this there were the crags nearby with the large mast, which can be climbed, and had cairns undernerath, and lakes or lochs and waterfalls close by, and also some guy one of the many who is said to be who James Bond was based on lived here, and also there were pine martins, and lots of orther things. A fascinating place. Also it had a tide where sometimes you could cross the jetty, and sometimes in higher water, not, for this lower, part of the town, near rthe fishing area. The school, and railway are at the top of the peninsula, the fishing area at the tip by the south, It also had many other beaches and coves, a farm, and more.
